東日本大震災の発災から10年目を迎え,東北地方,特に被災地域の地方紙はメディアとしての存在感の低下や人口減少,地域経済の低迷,インターネット・SNSとの対峙,「風化」に直面しながら,報道の在り方を模索している。地域メディアはジャーナリズムを通じて防災や被災地域の再建と密接に関わっているが,その役割は必ずしも適切に論じられ,評価されているとは言えない。国内各地で地理学者を含む研究者と報道者の連携事例があり,東北地方でも,人の営みと自然を扱う地理学とメディアには大きな連携の余地がある。
