Recurrent intussusception is a management dilemma and have many causes. We report a 22-month old boy who presented multiple times for recurrent intussusception. At diagnostic work-up he was found to be suffering from non-IgE food allergy. The child did not develop further episodes of intussusception after removal of allergenic diet.
Intussusception in adults is rare, accounting for less than 5% of all cases. Unlike the childhood variant, adult intussusception is often associated with a small bowel lesion acting as the "lead point." We herein report an uncommon case of giant intussusception secondary to 2 separate lipomatous lesions located in the ileum, in an adult admitted to our hospital for acute severe abdominal pain.
Aim: Intussusception is defined as invagination or telescoping of proximal bowel loop (intussusceptum) into distal loop (intussuscepiens). More than 90% of adult colonic intussusceptions are associated with a mass acting as lead point. It is required for all treating surgeons to know about presentation and management of adult intussusception. Case Report: A 40 year old man presented with pain i...
Intestinal intussusception is an uncommon event (incidence approximately 30 per 100 000 per year in US infants) in which one part of the intestine folds into another. The condition is usually considered idiopathic, but numerous case reports link intussusception to enteric pathogens, notably adenovirus. Several case reports have linked wild-type rotavirus to intussusception, although evidence fo...
Occlusive complications after a laparoscopic Roux-in Y gastric bypass (LRYGB), appear mainly as fibrous membranes of wounds, internal hernias or intussusception. Intussusception after a bariatric surgery occurs in 0.1-0.3% of the cases. We present a case of intussusception in a pregnant patient after a LRYGB.
Enteric intussusception is unusual in adults and frequently presents in a confusing manner. A case of jejunojejunal intussusception is presented in which a 15-cm abdominal mass developed in 24 h. The plain film, barium, and ultrasound findings in enteric intussusception are stressed.
BACKGROUND Intussusception is defined as the telescoping of a segment of the gastrointestinal tract into an adjacent one. A demonstrable etiology is found in 70% to 90% of cases in adult patients, and about 40% of them are caused by a primary or secondary malignant tumor. The aims of this study were to give an overview of the literature on intussusception due to gastrointestinal lymphoma. MAT...
BACKGROUND RotaShield, a vaccine intended to prevent severe rotavirus diarrhea, was withdrawn in July 1999, 9 months after it became available in the United States, because of a temporal association with intussusception events that occurred in vaccinated infants. We explore here the effect of age on the risk of intussusception. METHODS We reanalyzed a case-control database of the Centers for ...
We congratulate John and colleagues for their surveillance of ntussusception during the 116E rotavirus vaccine trial [1]. They oint out that it is critical to be vigilant to the risk of intussusception to determine if there are safety signals of a larger magnitude than urrently expected that may preclude licensure”. Rotasheild was licensed after a trial involving 14,687 patients. n this trial t...
Waugh's syndrome (WS) is the rare association of intussusception and intestinal malrotation. We present two such cases in a 5-month-old infant and a 9-year-old girl. Both patients presented with intussusception and were diagnosed with malrotation during workup and surgical exploration. We conclude that the possibility of intestinal malrotation must be taken into consideration while managing chi...
