Porous cellulose aerogel materials are attracting increasing interest due to their promising potential in multiple fields. In this paper, highly porous and mechanically strong cellulose aerogels were successfully prepared from microcrystalline cellulose and dissolving pulp in ionic liquid BmimCl via a sol–gel polymerization method. The surface morphology and physical properties were characteriz...

This work reports a facile novel approach to prepare asymmetric poly(vinylidene fluoride)/polystyrene (PVDF/PS) composite latex particles with controllable morphologies using one-step soap-free seeded emulsion polymerization, i.e., surface-initiated single electron transfer radical polymerization (SET-RP) of styrene (St) at the surface of PVDF seed particles. It was observed that the morphology...

Vascular embolization is a minimally invasive treatment used for the management of vascular malformations and tumors. It is carried out under X-ray by navigating a microcatheter into the targeted blood vessel, through which embolic agents are delivered to occlude the vessels. Cyanoacrylate liquid glues have been widely used for vascular embolization owing to their low viscosity, rapid polymeriz...

Polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) is a versatile technique to achieve a wide range of polymeric nanoparticle morphologies. Most previous examples of self-assembled soft nanoparticle synthesis by PISA rely on a growing solvophobic polymer block that leads to changes in nanoparticle architecture during polymerization in a selective solvent. However, synthesis of block copolymers with a ...

The identity of the c-caprolactone products from polymerization under the influence of amines has been studied, and conclusion about alkyl oxygen fission of the lactone ring at polymerization has been made. The main kinetic features of polymerization and molecular-weight distribution change on forming poly-C-caprolactone are discussed. On the basis of these data, polymerization mechanisms for l...

A brief overview of the principles and associated instrumentation used to monitor polymerization reactions by automatic continuous online monitoring of polymerization reactions (ACOMP) is presented. ACOMP can be used as an analytical method in R&D, as a tool for reaction optimization at the bench and pilot plant level and, eventually, for feedback control of full-scale reactors. ACOMP measures ...

A diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier-transform (DRIFT) study has been conducted at 373 K and 1 bar on an industrial Cr/Ti/SiO2 Phillips-type catalyst modified with, and without, triethylaluminium (TEAl) as co-catalyst. The reaction rate of the polymerization of ethylene, as monitored by the increase in the methylene stretching band of the growing polyethylene (PE), has been investigated as a ...

Photo responsive polyethyl vinyl ketone (PEVK) and various block copolymers were prepared through the visible light induced cobalt mediated radical polymerization (CMRP) process. The first order kinetics and linear increase in molecular weight with conversion demonstrated a well-behaved system. Chain extension experiments showed the retention of the living end of PEVK.

An ironand methyl methacrylate (MMA)-based electrochemically mediated atom transfer radical polymerization (eATRP) system was developed for the first time. Kinetic behaviors, including the effect of applied potential and catalyst loading, were systematically investigated. Results indicated that with more negative electrode potential, the polymerization rate increased until the mass transport li...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of an onium salt in the polymerization kinetics of a dental adhesive model resin. A monomer mixture, based on Bis-GMA, TEGDMA and HEMA, was used as a model dental adhesive resin, which was polymerized using camphorquinone (CQ) as a photo-initiator in addition to either binary or ternary photo-initiator systems. The binary systems were formulat...
