Abstract Background The internet has made significant contributions towards health education. Analyzing the pattern of online behavior regarding meningitis and vaccinations may be worthwhile. It is hypothesized that search patterns in are correlated with its number cases related vaccines. Methods This was an infodemiological study determined relationship among interest meningitis, worldwide ass...

Patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and on dialysis are at increased risk of pneumococcal disease. We evaluated the immunogenicity of the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) in this population. Eligible patients with ESRD and on dialysis were given a single dose of PCV13. The concentrations of serum antibodies against 13 pneumococcal capsular polysaccharides were measured ...

Seven-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV7) was licensed in February 2000. In June 2000, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended the universal administration of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine for all children 23 months of age and younger and for children 24 to 59 months of age who are at high risk for serious pneumococcal diseas...

BACKGROUND Severity and incidence of vaccine-preventable infections with influenza viruses, s. pneumoniae and c. tetani increase with age. Furthermore, vaccine coverage in the elderly is often insufficient. The aim of this study is to identify socio-economic and knowledge-, attitude- and practice- (KAP)-related determinants of vaccination against influenza, pneumococcal disease and tetanus in t...

OBJECTIVE Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) is an effective way to prevent invasive pneumococcal diseases in high risk populations. The efficacy of this vaccine in paediatric oncology patients remains unknown. DESIGN AND SETTING The authors evaluated the antibody response to seven pneumococcal serotypes in paediatric oncology patients given two doses of heptavalent PCV (PCV-7). RESULTS F...

A survey of nasopharyngeal carriage of penicillin nonsusceptible pneumococcal (PNSp) isolates was conducted among 1192 children attending 62 day care centers in Brazil, where pneumococcal vaccination has not been routinely introduced. Nasopharyngeal pneumococcal carriage was detected in 686 (57.6%) infants, and 178 (25.9%) of them carried PNSp isolates. Being less than 24 months of age, hospita...

UNLABELLED After administering the 10-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae protein D-conjugated vaccine (PHiD-CV) to children aged 2-18 months, we observed a reduction in vaccine-type nasopharyngeal carriage, resulting in a reduction of overall pneumococcal nasopharyngeal carriage, which may be important for indirect vaccine effects. We noted a trend toward redu...

BACKGROUND Pneumococcal carriage is a reservoir for transmission and a precursor to pneumococcal disease. The experimental human pneumococcal carriage model provides a useful tool to aid vaccine licensure through the measurement of vaccine efficacy against carriage (VEcol). Documentation of the genetic stability of the experimental human pneumococcal carriage model is important to further stren...

Nasopharyngeal (NP) pneumococcal carriage predisposes children to pneumococcal infections. Defining the proportion of pneumococcal isolates that are antibiotic-resistant enables the appropriate choice of empiric therapies. The antibiogram of NP carriage isolates derived from a pediatric population following the introduction of the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine was defined in this study.

To estimate cost-effectiveness of routine and catch-up vaccination of Canadian children with seven-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, a simulation model was constructed. In base scenario (vaccination coverage: 80%, and vaccine price: 58 dollars per dose), pneumococcal disease incidence reduction would be superior to 60% for invasive infections, and to 30% for non-invasive infections, but th...
