background: platelets rapidly lose their qualities usually after 5 day of storage. different standard methods have been recommended to check the quality of platelets during storage which some of them show better correlation with other quality markers during storage. the purpose of this study was to demonstrate if platelet factor 3 (pf3) assay could be an indicator of storage lesion and provide ...
To develop novel techniques for improving blood safety, dedicated bacterial strains, which are able to persist and to proliferate in blood platelet concentrates, are needed. Here, we present draft genome sequences of the four bacterial strains approved for the first WHO repository of platelet transfusion-relevant bacterial reference strains.
The presence of Aspergillus antigens in blood transfusion components from different manufacturers was analyzed. Galacomannans were found in transfused patients, pooled platelet concentrates, fresh frozen plasma, and packed red cells collected using Fresenius Kabi bags. Galacomannans were also found in blood collection anticoagulant and platelet additive solution from this manufacturer.
Thrombocytopenia is defined as a platelet count of less than 150 x 109/l. Normal pregnancy is generally thought not to affect the platelet count,' but it has been suggested that the normal range is lower in pregnancy, and that the count falls in the third trimester.2`4 This review concentrates on causes of thrombocytopenia with particular reference to pregnancy: most of these involve excessive ...
Cardiac pathologic events including; myocardial infarction, viral infection and hypertrophy, and aging, may trigger maladaptive remodeling of the myocardium. Maladaptive remodeling results in diastolic and systolic dysfunction, myocyte loss, and malformation of the extracellular matrix. It is proposed that platelet gel applied to the site of myocardial injury may provide the proper cytokines, g...
The performance of the VersaTREK blood culture system for the detection of a bacterial contamination of platelet concentrates was assessed using samples spiked with serial dilutions of nine bacterial species associated with platelet contamination. The system detected growth for all organisms in <20 h, and the detection sensitivity was <20 CFU/ml.
BACKGROUND AIMS The clinical use of human mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC) requires ex vivo expansion in media containing supplements such as fetal bovine serum or, alternatively, human platelet lysate (PL). METHODS Platelet concentrates were frozen, quarantine stored, thawed and sterile filtered to obtain PL. PL content and its effect on fibroblast-colony-forming unit (CFU-F) formation, MSC p...
OBJECTIVES The purpose is to study the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy and autologous platelet concentrates in healing the fibula bone of rabbits after induced fractures. METHODS A total of 128 male New Zealand albino rabbits, between 6-8 months old, were subjected to a total osteotomy of the proximal portion of the right fibula. After surgery, the animals were divided into four groups (...
