1. Different 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) receptor subtypes mediate different behavioural responses. Compounds acting at more than one 5-HT receptor exert behavioural effects which may be the result of response competition or a specific interaction between pathways within the CNS. Therefore the mutual interaction between different 5-HT receptor subtypes was studied. 2. Hypothermia and hypoactivit...

A new potent bioactive, proline-rich cyclic heptapeptide hymenamide E (13) was synthesized using the solution phase technique by cyclization of the linear peptide Boc-Phe-Pro-Thr-Thr-Pro-Tyr-Phe-OMe (12) after proper deprotection at carboxyl and amino terminals. Linear peptide segment was prepared by coupling the tripeptide unit Boc-Phe-Pro-Thr-OH (10a) with the tetrapeptide unit Thr-Pro-Tyr-Ph...

Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are the only effective pharmacological treatments for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Nonetheless, their generally limited efficacy, side-effects, and delayed onset of action require improved medications for this highly prevalent disorder. Preclinical and clinical findings have suggested serotonin2C (5-HT2C) receptors as a potential drug targ...

The current study evaluates the cytotoxic mechanism of a novel piperazine derivate designated as PCC against human liver cancer cells. In this context, human liver cancer cell lines, SNU-475 and 243, human monocyte/macrophage cell line, CRL-9855, and human B lymphocyte cell line, CCL-156, were used to determine the IC50 of PCC using the standard MTT assay. PCC displayed a strong suppressive eff...
