OBJECTIVE To compare the predictions of dominant Gleason pattern ≥ 4 or non-organ confined disease with Prostate Imaging Reporting and Data System (PI-RADS v2) with or without proton magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (1H-MRSI). MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-nine men underwent 3-tesla endorectal multiparametric MRI including 1H-MRSI and prostatectomy. Two radiologists assigned PI-RADS v2...

Abstract Background Patellar instability (PI) often increases the possibility of lateral patellar dislocation and early osteoarthritis. The molecular mechanism articular cartilage degeneration during patellofemoral osteoarthritis (PFOA) still requires further investigation. However, it is known that NF-κB signaling pathway plays an important role in degeneration. aim this study was to investiga...

Using data collected with the CLEO detector operating at the CESR e+e- collider at sqrt[s]=3.97-4.26 GeV, we investigate 15 charmonium decay modes of the psi(4040), psi(4160), and Y(4260) resonances. We confirm, at 11 sigma significance, the BABAR Y(4260)-->pi+pi- J/psi discovery, make the first observation of Y(4260)--> pi(0)pi(0) J/psi (5.1 sigma), and find the first evidence for Y(4260)-->K+...

High concentrations of orthophosphate (Pi) inhibited CO(2)-dependent O(2) evolution and prevented the inactivation of glucose-6-P dehydrogenase by light in intact spinach and barley chloroplasts. Addition of glycerate-3-P to chloroplasts inhibited by Pi in the light, induced O(2) evolution and caused rapid inactivation of glucose-6-P dehydrogenase. The activity of phosphofructokinase detected i...

We examined the effect of glucocorticoids on brush border membrane transporters and, furthermore, the involvement of Ca2+ in its action in the primary cultured rabbit renal proximal tubule cells (PTCs). Dexamethasone (DEX, 10(-9) M) decreased Pi uptake by 17%; whereas DEX affected neither alpha-methyl-glucopyranoside (alpha-MG) uptake nor Na+ uptake. The DEX-induced inhibition of Pi uptake was ...

In sodium dimer the 2 (3)Pi(g), 3 (3)Pi(g), and 4 (3)Sigma(g) (+) electronic states are coupled; the coupling of the two (3)Pi(g) states is due to vibrational motion while the nonadiabatic interaction between the (3)Sigma(g) (+) and the (3)Pi(g) states-in particular, the 3 (3)Pi(g) state-is mediated by rotational interaction. The resulting vibronic problem is studied in some detail. The bound v...

Phosphoinositides (PI) are important signaling molecules involved in the regulation of vesicular trafficking. We found that phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate (PI4P) and phosphatidylinositol 4,5-biphosphate [PI(4,5)P(2)] increase the secretory response triggered by 10 mum Ca(2+) in streptolysin-O-permeabilized insulin-secreting INS-1E cells. In addition, nutrient-induced exocytosis was diminished...

Amphiphilic block copolymer poly(isoprene-b-acrylic acid) (PI-b-PAA) was used to stabilize exfoliated graphene in water, allowing the immobilization of semiconductor CdS nanoparticles forming CdS • PI-b-PAA/graphene. Characterization using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy proved the success of the preparation method and revealed the prese...

Membrane lipids have been implicated in many critical cellular processes, yet little is known about the role of asymmetric lipid distribution in cell morphogenesis. The phosphoinositide bis-phosphate PI(4,5)P(2) is essential for polarized growth in a range of organisms. Although an asymmetric distribution of this phospholipid has been observed in some cells, long-range gradients of PI(4,5)P(2) ...
