We stand at the threshold of a new ’golden age’ of spectroscopic studies of materials for unraveling how charge, spin, orbital and lattice degrees of freedom interact to produce emergent phenomena and exotic states of matter. In this connection, the need for proper modeling of various highly resolved spectroscopies is becoming of critical importance in providing discriminating tests of competin...

Nonhelical hydromagnetic turbulence without an imposed magnetic field is considered in the case where the magnetic Prandtl number is unity. The magnetic field is entirely due to dynamo action. The magnetic energy spectrum peaks at a wavenumber of about 5 times the minimum wavenumber in the domain, and not at the resistive scale, as has previously been argued. Throughout the inertial range, the ...

We show that thermal effects play a relevant role in the determination of the electron-phonon couplings based on the intensity of the phonon-shakeup peaks in photoemission spectra. In particular, we re-consider the determination of the electron-phonon couplings of fullerene based on a fit of the photoemission spectrum of C−60 in gas phase (1). We show that taking thermal effects into account re...

We assess the quantitative importance of expectation effects of regime shifts in monetary policy in a DSGE model that allows the monetary policy rule to switch between a “bad” regime and a ”good” regime. When agents take into account such regime shifts in forming expectations, the expectation effect is asymmetric. In the good regime, the expectation effect is small despite agents’ disbelief tha...

Observers often judge agents who miss a desired outcome by a small, compared to a large, margin to be less happy. This nearmiss effect has typically been examined in situations where the agents have control over outcomes (e.g., missing a flight). Here, we extend this work in three ways. First, we show that near-miss effects play into observers’ intuitive theories of emotion even for randomly-de...

We investigate the spin-split and magnetization dependence of the 5f angle resolved photoemission spectra. For large values of the spontaneous magnetization, the model supports magnetic polaron excitations. We compare the results of our calculations with recent experimental results of Durakiewicz, Joyce and co-workers on related 5f compounds.

The list length effect in recognition memory has been the subject of recent debate. Many studies have identified the effect, however Dennis and Humphreys (2001) argued that previous list length effect findings were the result of a failure to control for four potential confounds. The list length effect can be used to discriminate between item and context noise models of recognition memory. Item ...

Two sets of available photoelectric photometric observational data of the close binary system BV Eri were analyzed with the recent Wilson-Devinney synthetic light curve program. The new absolute parameters of the system were also derived by combining the photometric solutions with the spectroscopic material. The research suggests that BV Eri is a B-type contact binary system, and mass from the ...

Photoelectron-counting distributions are obtained for modulated radiation sources, with arbitrary modulation waveforms and depths. Cases treated in detail include chaotic, amplitude-stabilized, and Risken sources, with square-wave, triangular, and sinusoidal modulation. Modulation is shown to broaden the counting distributions, an effect interpretable as accentuated photon bunching. The broaden...
