CLINICAL CASE A patient had bilateral angioid streaks complicated by cicatricial degeneration in the left eye and subfoveal choroidal neovascularization in the right eye. Photodynamic therapy resulted in a favorable response with normalization of the visual acuity and angiographic resolution of the lesions. DISCUSSION The most serious complication of angioid streaks is choroidal neovasculariz...

The photodynamic effect of polycyclic hydrocarbons was studied in Neurospora crassa and tissue culture cells of the Chinese hamster. The polycyclic hydrocarbons were dissolved in dimethylformamide and added to the treatment solution or medium. Other solvents, such as dimethyl sulfoxide and bovine serum, quenched the photodynamic effect of 3,4-benzpyrene and could not be used. Conidia from a dik...

GEKG: generalized eruptive keratoacanthoma of Grzybowski KA: keratoacanthoma PDT: photodynamic therapy INTRODUCTION Generalized eruptive keratoacanthoma of Grzybowski (GEKG), a rare variant of keratoacanthoma (KA), affects widespread areas of the skin and mucous membranes. First described in 1950, this condition is exceptionally difficult to treat. Systemic retinoids or cyclophosphamide, althou...

We report the use of photodynamic therapy with verteporfin for subfoveal choroidal neovacularization in central serous chorioretinopathy. Visual acuity improved (0.5 to 1.0) 30 days after the first session. After 141 days, the choroidal neovascularization reactivated and the patient was retreated. Again, visual acuity improved (0.5 to 1.0) 30 days afterwards. It remains stable after 20 months. ...

CASE REPORTS The clinical characteristics of three patients with circumscribed choroidal haemangioma and subfoveal exudation detected by optical coherence tomography are described in this paper. The three patients were successfully treated with photodynamic therapy. DISCUSSION Photodynamic therapy is the most adequate therapeutic option for circumscribed choroidal hemangioma associated with s...

Photodynamic inactivation of bacteriophage T4 particles, mediated by either angelicin or thiopyronin, is enhanced by defects in the T4 uvsW-uvsX-uvsY postreplication repair system but not by a defect in the denV pyrimidine-dimer-excision system. There was no evidence for functional interactions between the two repair systems. As observed previously with 8-methoxypsoralen, photodynamic mutagenes...

The in vitro photodynamic inactivation of a wide variety of tumor cells was studied with various dyes used as sensitizcrs. The capacity of dyes to act as photosensitizers in this system parallels their capacity to sensitize the photoinactivation of many other substrates and correlates with their capacity to undergo photoreduction. Some dyes are able to inactivate tumor cells in the abscnce of l...

The photodynamic lethal response of Gram negative bacteria was found to be a one event phenomenon as previously reported. However, the kinetics of the lethal response in Gram-positive microorganisms was found to be more complex. The survivor response of the latter was dividable into at least two distinct parts, each of which could be influenced by various environmental and genetic factors. Some...
