2-Chloroethylphosphonic acid (CEPA) affected both the growth of and antibiotic production in Streptomyces aureofaciens, S. griseus, S. antibioticus, and Penicillium citrinum. Streptomyces strains seemed to be more sensitive to the presence of CEPA in the medium than did the fungus. A decrease in both growth and antibiotic production was observed with a concomitant increase in the concentration ...

Background and Objective: Avicenniaceae family is a member of true mangrove plants which has one genus, 11 species and several sub species. According to biologically active compounds and traditional uses of the leaves in the traditional medician it, seems that this plant has significant anti-fungal effects. The aim of this study was evaluation of antifungal effect of aqueous and methanolic...

A fungal isolate EML-NCP01 was recovered from agricultural soil in Ulleung Island, Korea. Phylogenetic analysis of internal transcribed spacer and β-tubulin genes identified the isolate as the Penicillium species P. raphiae. Morphologically, the EML-NCP01 isolate was identical to the previous description of P. raphiae. The species presented here has not been reported in Korea.

The naphthoquinones lapachol and dichloroallyl lawsone readily undergo oxidative ring fission when incubated with several fungi and streptomycetes. Penicillium notatum was employed to produce the ring fission product of dichloroallyl lawsone which was isolated and characterized by spectral analyses and chemical synthesis. The mechanism of oxidative ring fission of lapachol was studied by growin...

In industrial fermentations, Penicillium chrysogenum uses sulfate as the source of sulfur for the biosynthesis of penicillin. By a PCR-based approach, two genes, sutA and sutB, whose encoded products belong to the SulP superfamily of sulfate permeases were isolated. Transformation of a sulfate uptake-negative sB3 mutant of Aspergillus nidulans with the sutB gene completely restored sulfate upta...

A part of apples destined to juice production is generally of poor quality. Apples from cold storage or recently harvest (ground harvested or low quality apples) are stored under ambient conditions until they are processed. Since Penicillium expansum and P. griseofulvum are the principal fungal species isolated from stored apples in Brazil, the objective of this study was to investigate the abi...

Vermixocins A and B, 3-(1'-hydroxy-3'-methylbutyl)- and 3-(1'-acetoxy-3'-methylbutyl)-11-hydroxy-4-methoxy-9-methyl-5H,7H- dibenzo[c,f][1,5]dioxocin-5-one, respectively, were isolated from the mycelium of Penicillium vermiculatum. Both metabolites showed cytotoxic effects on lympholeukemia cells P388.

Three new brasiliamide congeners, brasiliamides C, D and E, were isolated from okara fermented with Penicillium brasilianum Batista JV-379. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral data and chemical evidence. NMR spectra of these brasiliamides exhibited a mixture of four or two conformers due to the restricted rotation of an amide bond in a solution. The (1)H- and (13)C-NMR spe...
