UNLABELLED BACKGROUND OF OBJECTIVE: Treatment of xanthelasma palpebrarum may prove difficult due to its delicate location at the periorbita and its sometimes extensive dimension. During recent years, carbon dioxide and argon lasers have been used with good results. However, local anesthesia is always required, and there is a concrete risk of scarring and pigmentation changes after the treatment...
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of pulsed Nd:YAG laser on the dentin surface by scanning electron microscope (SEM) in order to determine the optimum time and power of radiation to seal the exposed dentinal tubules. Horizontal sections were taken from newly extracted impact third molar teeth. Smear layers from the dentin surfaces were removed by phosphoric acid and all sampl...
Fluorescence photobleaching was measured in dye-impregnated sol–gel/polymer composite glasses. These fluorescent glasses were used as the gain medium in a transverse-pumped solid-state dye laser. In this configuration, the fluorescent glass was excited by a pulsed Nd:YAG laser (about 6 mJ/pulse) either while placed in an optical cavity (i.e., functioning as a pulsed laser) or with the optical c...
PURPOSE To determine the most appropriate time for laser irradiation to produce selective occlusion of new corneal vessels by photodynamic therapy (PDT) with a new photosensitizer, ATX-S10(Na). METHODS The time course of the plasma levels of ATX-S10(Na) and the degree of dye accumulation in the corneal neovascularization after intravenous administration was determined in rabbit eyes. Plasma c...
BACKGROUND Low-fluence (low irradiation energy density) pulsed-dye lasers (PDLs) have been used for atrophic acne scarring, and anecdotal experience suggests that long-term improvements in inflammatory acne can be seen after one PDL treatment. Our aim was to compare the efficacy and tolerability of such PDL treatment with sham treatment in patients with facial inflammatory acne in a double-blin...
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Many laser, light and energy emitting devices are utilized for skin rejuvenation. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS The clinical approach to multiple problems of photoaging are discussed and an algorithm for approach by problem is presented. RESULTS Clinical use of various modalities such as LED photomodulation, intense pulsed light, pulsed dye laser, KTP laser, r...
Infantile hemangiomas, occurring at birth or during the first weeks of life, are benign vascular tumors with an initial proliferative phase and a later involutional phase. The massive proliferation on the key regions and unpredicted regression may threaten life. Thus, early management of infantile hemangiomas is necessary for affected infancies. Recent studies showed that propranolol for infant...
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The average success rate in achieving total blanching of port wine stain (PWS) lesions treated with laser-induced selective photothermolysis is below 25%, even after multiple treatments. This is because smaller diameter (5-20 microm) PWS blood vessels are difficult to destroy with selective photothermolysis since the volumetric heat generated by absorption of laser lig...
BACKGROUND The anterior neck is the site of open thyroidectomy and where postoperative scarring can cause distress to patients. Both fractional and pulsed-dye lasers are effective and safe methods for preventing and improving surgical scars. OBJECTIVE This study evaluated the improvement in scar appearance with laser intervention during the wound healing process. We evaluated the effect of no...
The treatment of atrophoderma vermiculatum is challenging. A 7-year-old girl had a unilateral atrophic skin lesion on her right cheek, which was diagnosed as unilateral atrophoderma vermiculata. She was treated by carbon dioxide and 595 nm pulsed dye laser and carbon dioxide laser. This resulted in prevention of the lesional progression with favorable cosmetic appearance of the skin.
