Evidence continues to point to the anticancer properties of fresh garlic extracts, aged garlic, garlic oil, and anumberof specificorganosulfur compoundsgeneratedbyprocessinggarlic. Theseanticarcinogenicandantitumorigenic characteristics appear to arise through both doseand temporal-related changes in a number of cellular events involved with the cancer process, including those involving drug me...
Slurry acidification using sulfuric acid reduces ammonia emissions but also affects sulfur (S) cycling. Emission of sulfur is a source of malodor and reduces the sulfur fertilizer value of the slurry. We investigated the effect of sulfate and methionine amendments, alone or in combination with acidification, on sulfur transformations in slurry and emissions of volatile sulfur compounds (VSC) du...
Acidithiobacillus caldus is an extremely acidophilic, moderately thermophilic, chemolithoautotrophic gammaproteobacterium that derives energy from the oxidation of sulfur and reduced inorganic sulfur compounds. Here we present the draft genome sequence of Acidithiobacillus caldus ATCC 51756 (the type strain of the species), which has permitted the prediction of genes for survival in extremely a...
Aminomethylated Beaucage's reagent 1 was found to be more potent than 3H-1,2-benzodithiol-3-one 1,1-dioxide (Beaucage's reagent) in causing DNA cleavage. The current study demonstrated the importance of the amino functionality in enhancing DNA-cleaving activities, and such findings may facilitate development of novel sulfur-containing DNA-cleaving molecules in cancer therapy.
in this research, zeolite-tio2 nanocomposite was prepared for degradation of dibenzothiophene as a typical aromatic organosulfur compound of transportation fuels.the synthesized tio2 was immobilized on the surface of clinoptilolite by solid state dispersion (ssd) method. the nanocomposite was then characterized by xrd, ftir, tem and sem techniques. photodegradation of dibenzothiophene in n-hexa...
Z. Naturforsch. 54 b, 57-62 (1999); received July 28, 1998 Ferrocene, Tin, Phosphorus, NMR Data, Coupling Signs l,l,3,3-Tetramethyl-2-organo(R)-l,3-distanna-2-phospha-[3]ferrocenophanes [R = Me (2a), rBu (2b), CöH i i (2c), Ph (2d)] and one arsa-analogue 2d(As) were obtained from the reaction of l,l'-bis(chlorodimethylstannyl)ferrocene 1 with either bis(trimethylsilyl)methylphosphane or the dil...
We investigated the biodesulfurization potential of a mixed culture AK6 enriched from petroleum hydrocarbons-polluted soil with dibenzothiophene (DBT) as a sulfur source. In addition to DBT, AK6 utilized the following compounds as sulfur sources: 4-methyldibenzothiophene (4-MDBT), benzothiophene (BT), and 4,6- dimethyldibenzothiophene (4,6-DM-DBT). None of these compounds supported the growth o...
In this ‘feasibility study’ the influence of roasting on the sulfur speciation in Mexican coffee beans was investigated by sulfur K-XANES spectroscopy. Spectra of green and slightly roasted beans could be fitted to a linear combination of ‘standard’ reference spectra for biological samples, whereas longer roasting obviously involves formation of additional sulfur compounds in considerable amounts.
Fungi are well known for their metabolic versatility, whether it is the degradation of complex organic substrates or the biosynthesis of intricate secondary metabolites. The vast majority of studies concerning fungal metabolic pathways for sulfur assimilation have focused on conventional sources of sulfur such as inorganic sulfur ions and sulfur-containing biomolecules. Less is known about the ...
