The high resolution airborne imaging spectrometer APEX (Airborne Prism Experiment) is currently being built. In parallel, its data processing calibration chain is being designed. The complex design of this high resolution pushbroom instrument bears the risk of optical aberrations in the registered spatio-spectral frames. Such aberrations consist of so-called frown and smile effects, as well as ...

Introduction: With the growing and rapid development of refractive surgery, researches focus increasingly on improvement of visual quality after cataract surgery. Intraocular lenses (IOLs) were a successful effort in the field of cataract surgery. Despite significant advances in cataract surgery, several complications related to surgical technique and IOL design after surgery can cause vision c...

PURPOSE To validate the estimation of corneal aberrations from videokeratography against a laser ray tracing technique that measured total eye aberrations, in eyes without keratoconus (ie, cornea-dominated wave aberrations). METHODS We measured total and corneal wave aberrations of three eyes diagnosed with keratoconus by slit-lamp microscopy and corneal topography: two eyes from one patient ...

We present a comprehensive approach for the design of adjustable-focus lenses based on the Alvarez principle. The design methodology consists of dividing the lens into two parts: the inner, optical part, where the optical quality is optimized, and the outer, mechanical part, connecting the optical part to the frame. For the optical part, we present a complete optical design methodology to minim...

We present a proof of concept (design, simulations, and experimental results) for an optical cross-connection device based on the optical White cell and a three-state microelectromechanical system tilting mirror array. We describe in detail the implementation of an underpopulated quartic White cell configuration. We discuss the aberrations associated with the output of the system.

Hybrid components combining the optical power of a refractive and diffractive system can form compact doublet lenses that correct various aberrations. Unfortunately, diffraction efficiency these devices decreases as function deflection angle over element aperture. Here, we address this issue, compensating for chromatic dispersion correcting monochromatic aberrations with centimeter-scale hybrid...

A standard paradigm of localization microscopy involves extension from two to three dimensions by engineering information into emitter images, and approximation errors resulting the field dependence optical aberrations. We invert this paradigm, introducing concept fully exploiting latent intrinsic aberrations comprehensive calibration an ordinary microscope, enabling accurate single emitters in...

Silicon deformable mirrors have the potential to modulate spatial and temporal features of an optical wavefront. This capability is critical for systems in which aberrations affect optical beam quality, including many applications in laser communication, medical imaging, astronomy, and target tracking. The main goal of the work presented here was to design, build, and test a 1024 actuator wavef...

Optical aberrations deteriorate the performance of microscopes. Adaptive optics can be used to improve imaging performance via wavefront shaping. Here, we demonstrate a pupil-segmentation based adaptive optical approach with full-pupil illumination. When implemented in a two-photon fluorescence microscope, it recovers diffraction-limited performance and improves imaging signal and resolution.

The simulation of optical wavefront decomposition on Zernike polynomials based on the multi-channel diffractive optical element (DOE) was performed. This approach is an alternative to classical wavefront sensors and may be used to determine weighted values of aberrations in the analysed wavefront in real time thus, facilitating the aberrometry analysis of the human eye optical system. An invest...
