We have measured the thermal expansion and the temperature dependence of z and y components of the refractive index for KTiOPO4 and KTiOAsO4, in the wavelength range 532-1585 nm and temperature range 25-200 degrees C, using an interferometric technique. The measurements were used to derive temperature-dependent Sellmeier equations for the two materials. These equations predict with good agreeme...

–Relativistic effects on the linear and nonlinear properties of electron plasma waves are investigated using the one-dimensional quantum hydrodynamic (QHD) model for a two-component electron-ion dense quantum plasma with an arbitrary temperature and streaming motion. It is shown that the relativistic effects significantly affect the linear and nonlinear properties of electron plasma waves. Depe...

We study the Hamiltonian system made of weakly coupled anharmonic oscillators arranged on a three dimensional lattice Z2N × Z2, and subjected to a stochastic forcing mimicking heat baths of temperatures T1 and T2 on the hyperplanes at 0 and N . We introduce a truncation of the Hopf equations describing the stationary state of the system which leads to a nonlinear equation for the two-point stat...

The voltage and the temperature behavior of inelastic interelectrode current mediated by a short molecular wire is analyzed within a nonlinear kinetic approach that accounts for strong Coulomb repulsion between transferring electrons. When the coupling to the heat bath occurs via high-frequency vibration modes we predict a generally nonlinear current-voltage characteristics (an Ohmic behavior a...

In this study a number of control strategies have been developed for control of the overhead composition of a binary distillation column. The nonlinear wave model as presented in the literature, has been substantially modified in order to express it in variables that can easily be measured and make it more robust to feed flow and feed composition changes. The new model consists essentially of t...

We study nonlinear transport through a classical ballistic system accounting for the Coulomb interaction between electrons. The joint effect of the applied bias V and magnetic field H on the electron trajectories results in a component of the nonlinear current I(V,H) which lacks the H-->-H symmetry: deltaI=alpha(cl)V(2)H. At zero temperature the magnitude of alpha(cl) is of the same order as th...

An organic nonlinear optical single crystal of gamma glycine (GGLY) has been grown by slow evaporation of the saturated solution at room temperature. Single crystal of gamma glycine (GGLY), an organic nonlinear optical (NLO) material, has been grown by slow solvent evaporation technique. Good optical quality single crystals with dimension up to 31 × 30 × 6 mm are obtained. The crystals are char...

We report and characterize low-temperature, plasma-deposited deuterated silicon nitride films for nonlinear integrated photonics. With a peak processing temperature less than 300°C, it is back-end compatible with complementary metal-oxide semiconductor substrates. We achieve microresonators with a quality factor of up to 1.6×106 at 1552 nm and >1.2×106 throughout λ=1510-1600  nm, without anneal...

We examine a model for the propagation of heat through a one-dimensional object with an interior “flaw”. The flaw is modeled as a nonlinear relationship between the flux and temperature jump at an interior point of the object. Under realistic hypotheses, the resulting nonlinear initial boundary value problem is shown to have a unique and suitably smooth solution.

In this paper we formulate a geometric theory of thermal stresses. Given a temperature distribution, we associate a Riemannian material manifold to the body, with a metric that explicitly depends on the temperature distribution. A change in temperature corresponds to a change in the material metric. In this sense, a temperature change is a concrete example of the so-called referential evolution...
