A quantitative method of monitoring neuromuscular blockade has been recently introduced. It has been suggested, when using mivacurium, that a standardized passage of time be used for induction. The purpose of this study was to determine whether a difference existed in intubating conditions when using mivacurium between a timed-dose technique and the ParaGraph (Vital Signs, Inc., Totowa, New Jer...

Inappropriate implantable cardiac defibrillator (ICD) shocks are associated with significant morbidity and have the potential to trigger ventricular arrhythmias, cardiac decompensation, and death. We present a case of multiple inappropriate ICD therapies in rapid succession due electromagnetic interference from a Dr-Ho's transcutaneous electric nerve stimulator machine, and subsequently from a ...

Nineteen patients with chronic pain due to a traumatic peripheral neuropathy were treated by means of implanted nerve stimulation. In 11 (58%) pain was completely relieved and in four (21%) it was reduced sufficiently to discontinue analgesics. The average follow-up was 11.5 months. The technique is described and the failures discussed. The necessity for implanting the stimulator proximally is ...

Direct percutaneous stimulation of the proximal sciatic nerve with a high voltage electrical stimulator was given to a patient with acute sciatic compression neuropathy. Results clearly showed a focal conduction block at the sciatic notch, which could not be precisely localised and quantified by conventional electrodiagnostic methods.
