Cardioembolic stroke is an important cause of stroke in young people. Cardioembolism classically causes infarcts in multiple vascular territories. In the case described here a young woman developed cardioembolic stroke secondary to atrial myxoma. The presentation was atypical in that the woman had no systemic manifestations of her myxoma.
We present a 25 year old Caucasian male patient with multiple recurrences of cardiac myxomas after surgical removal of the original tumor. His mother was operated on for right ventricular myxoma. The genetic analyses disclosed an aneuploid DNA content by flow cytometry analysis. The familial form of the cardiac myxomas must be distinguished from Carney complex syndrome. A long- term echocardiog...
Cardiac myxomas are benign tumors composed of sparse stellate cells in an extensive mucoid stroma. The surface of these tumors is often friable and gelatinous. Their intracardiac location makes embolization a constant threat. We report a patient who had diffuse systemic embolization of a left atrial myxoma coincident with a low-velocity frontal motor vehicle crash.
A case of myxoma of the mitral valve is reported. The clinical features were indistinguishable from left atrial myxoma with prolapse through the mitral valve. Because of the known tendency for these tumours to recur it was treated by wide excision which necessitated replacement of the mitral valve.
A case of right atrial myxoma is described. The patient had vague and variable symptoms and it was not until five years after first presentation that she had developed clinical and electrocardiographic evidence of right atrial hypertrophy, and angiocardiographic evidence of a fist-sized myxoma which was subsequently removed surgically.

We have analyzed the genesis of physical signs in a case of prolapsing left atrial myxoma by simultaneous phono-, apex- and M-mode echocardiography. Our findings confirm a direct relationship of tumor movements with notching in the upstroke of the apexcardiogram and with the protodiastolic "tumor plop."
BACKGROUND The purpose of this article is to document the clinical features of the unusual mitral valve myxoma based on the literature of recent years. METHODS A literature retrieval of the mitral valve myxoma reported in recent years was made using the MEDLINE and EMBASE databases. The clinical information about this unusual disorder was collected and analyzed. RESULTS Mitral valve myxoma ...
Multiple myeloma is an incurable malignancy of plasma B-cells. Traditional chemotherapeutic regimes often induce initial tumor regression; however, virtually all patients eventually succumb to relapse caused by either reintroduction of disease during autologous transplant or expansion of chemotherapy resistant minimal residual disease. It has been previously demonstrated that an oncolytic virus...
