We study the creep motion of an elastic string in a two-dimensional pinning landscape by means of Langevin dynamics simulations. We find that the velocity-force characteristics are well described by the creep formula predicted from phenomenological scaling arguments. We analyze the creep exponent mu and the roughness exponent zeta. Two regimes are identified: when the temperature is larger than...
For Motion Picture Special Effects, it is often necessary to take a source image of an actor, segment the actor from the unwanted background, and then composite over a new background. The standard approach requires the unwanted background to be a blue screen. While this technique is capable of handling areas where the foreground blends into the background, the physical requirements present many...
This paper provides an overview of Digital Cinema including some of the architectural ideas that have been proposed and are being considered. There are a number of security tools that can be used with the goal of secure delivery of motion picture content to the projector. There are many technical and business constraints that guide these designs. Independently, there have been a number of effor...
A novel approach to image mosaicking from MPEG video is presented in this paper. The motion vectors in both Pand Bframes are used for global motion estimation. The bi-directional information in B-frames provides multiple routes to warp a frame to its previous anchor frame. A Least Median of Squares based algorithm is adopted for robust motion estimation. In the case of a large proportion of out...
Do we view the world differently if it is described to us in figurative rather than literal terms? An answer to this question would reveal something about both the conceptual representation of figurative language and the scope of top-down influences on scene perception. Previous work has shown that participants will look longer at a path region of a picture when it is described with a type of f...
A new 2-D array architecture for real-time video picture motion estimation is presented. Due to incorporated concepts of video memory distribution and sharing, the architecture ensures feasible solutions for the HDTV picture format with twice lower memory requirements. It features minimal I/O pin count, 100% processor utilization and is quite suitable for VLSI implementation.
