Q fever is a zoonotic disease caused by the bacterium Coxiella burnetii which is endemic in cattle, sheep and goats in much of the world, including the United Kingdom (UK). There is some epidemiological evidence that a small proportion of cases in the developed world may arise from consumption of unpasteurised milk with less evidence for milk products such as cheese. Long maturation at low pH m...

Weight gain of young dairy replacement heifers, even over several months, is highly variable, lowly heritable, and a poor indicator of either weight at calving or first lactation milk yield. Voluntary forage consumption is much less variable, more heritable, and a better predictor of weight at calving and milk yield. Weight at calving is highly heritable but not correlated genetically with milk...

This study examines if lactase non-persistent (LNP) children and adolescents differ from those who are lactase persistent (LP) as regards milk avoidance and Ca intake. We also studied potential differences in anthropometric features related to obesity, and examined if milk avoidance is associated with lactase-persistence status. Additionally, we aimed to determine if heterozygous subjects showe...

BACKGROUND The impact of dairy intake on cardiometabolic risk factors associated with metabolic syndrome (MetS) needs further research. OBJECTIVE To investigate the impact of milk consumption on a wide array of cardiometabolic risk factors associated with MetS (blood lipids, cholesterol homeostasis, glucose homeostasis, systemic inflammation, blood pressure, endothelial function) in postmenop...
