Gold particles have been formed in water-in-oil microemulsions doped with a photodestructible surfactant. UV light-induced nanoparticle flocculation has been achieved after photolysis of the photosurfactant, leading to a reduction in the steric stabilization provided by the surfactant layer.

Using a mean field approximation we calculate the lifetime of thermotlynamically unstable bilayers of a specific initial conformation in the Witlom mortel of microemulsions. For itlentical initial conformations of these mode[ bilayers, we study the tlepentlence of the lifetime on the initial magnetization of the central layer, the temperature. antl the elastic curvature of the amphiphilic membr...

It is well-known that certain mixtures of surfactants can provide better performance than pure surfactants for a wide variety of applications,1,2 and thus it is expected that enhanced solubilization ofwater inwater-in-oil (w/o) microemulsions will also be achieved with certain surfactant mixtures. The formation of w/o microemulsions involves dissolving an aqueous phase into an oil phase, creati...

Nanotechnology, shortened to nanotech, is the study of the controlling of matter on an atomic and molecular scale. Generally, nanotechnology deals with structures sized between 1 to 100 nanometer in at least one dimension and involves developing materials or devices within that size. The use of nanotechnology in the field of pharmaceutics and drug delivery has grown over the last few years, so ...

We report on the production of Carbon Nano Networks (CNNs) from dense microemulsions in which catalyst nanoparticles have been synthesized. CNNs are 3D carbon networks, consisting of branches and junctions, and are mesoporous, graphitic, and conductive being suitable as electrode materials.

An environmentally-friendly, enzyme-promoted procedure for the Henry reaction was first studied using water-in-[Bmim][PF6] microemulsions as reaction medium. The Amano acylase from Aspergillus oryzae showed better catalytic activity for the addition reactions of nitromethane with a series of aromatic aldehydes, and a highest yield of 90% was obtained.

We successfully implemented solvent extraction of short, single-stranded RNA using reverse micelles (water-in-oil microemulsions) with a DNA-surfactant. A thrombin-binding RNA aptamer was enzymatically synthesized and purified by extraction using the reverse micellar system. The extracted RNA aptamer retained thrombin-binding activity after the extraction procedure.
