The development of polymeric luminescent nanomaterials for biomedical applications has recently attracted a large amount of attention due to the remarkable advantages of these materials compared with small organic dyes and fluorescent inorganic nanomaterials. Among these polymeric luminescent nanomaterials, polymeric luminescent nanomaterials based on dyes with aggregation-induced emission (AIE...

Many types of fluorescent nanoparticles have been investigated as alternatives to conventional organic dyes in biochemistry; magnetic beads also have a long history of biological applications. In this work we apply flame spray pyrolysis in order to engineer a novel type of nanoparticle that has both luminescent and magnetic properties. The particles have magnetic cores of iron oxide doped with ...

During the past few decades, the research on persistent luminescent materials has focused mainly on Eu2+-doped compounds. However, the yearly number of publications on non-Eu2+-based materials has also increased steadily. By now, the number of known persistent phosphors has increased to over 200, of which over 80% are not based on Eu2+, but rather, on intrinsic host defects, transition metals (...

The dosimeters used to monitor industrial irradiation processing commonly experience significant temperature rises that must be considered in the dose analysis stage. The irradiation-temperature coefficient for a dosimetry system is derived from the dosimeter's radiation response to the absorbed dose and the irradiation temperature. This temperature coefficient is typically expressed in percent...

PURPOSE To obtain and assess the accuracy of 3D dose distributions and LET maps from a passively-scattered proton beam through the use of LET-dependent and LET-independent polymer gel formulations. METHODS Dose measurements were performed with BANG3-Pro2 (MGS Research, Inc, Madison, CT) polymer gel dosimeters. The dosimeters were mixed from kits and were poured into 14.5 cm high by 15 cm diam...

background : sensitivity is an important dosimetric issue particularly in personal dosimetry where the range of doses is often very low to medium. in-service aging is assumed to be of negligible effect on the response of thermoluminescent dosimeters (tld), consequently, some service providers may mix fresh tlds to in-use ones and simply normalize the readings of tlds through batch calibration. ...

Abstract Fricke gel dosimeters were prepared using a matrix based on poly(vinyl-alcohol) chemical cross-linked with glutaraldehyde and loaded Xylenol Orange. The samples irradiated gamma rays to doses in the range of 5–30 Gy consequent color changes investigated by spectrophotometric colorimetric techniques. Starting from measurement transmittance spectra, an analysis was carried out considerin...

In vivo bioluminescent imaging permits the visualization of bacteria in live animals, allowing researchers to monitor, both temporally and spatially, the progression of infection in each animal. We sought to engineer stably luminescent clinical strains of Staphylococcus aureus, with the goal of using such strains in mouse models. The gram-positive shuttle vector pMAD was used as the backbone fo...

This study investigated the dosimetric properties of various electronic components extracted from a new generation mobile phone using optically stimulated luminescence and thermoluminescence. The studied resistors exhibit high linearity in the dose range of interest, signal repeatibility and reproducibility, along with a minimum detectable dose of 16 mGy after preheating.
