Practicing sports together with rehabilitative treatment improves the development of motor, social and emotional abilities of lower limb amputees. The aim of this study was to compare the functional and social performance of individuals with lower limb amputations between those who played soccer and those who did not engage in any sports activities. A total of 138 individuals participated in th...
CUTANEOUS SENSITIVITY IN UNILATERAL TRANS-TIBIAL AMPUTEES Cale A. Templeton Advisor: University of Guelph, 2012 Dr. Leah R. Bent The aim of this research was to examine tactile sensitivity in the skin of the leg and foot sole of healthy control subjects and below knee amputees and to examine its association with balance. For control subjects, the glabrous skin of the foot had higher sensitivity...
This paper describes the surgical technique of the Krukenberg procedure being applied in the Artificial Limb Centre, Pune, India. The results of 95 amputations on 56 patients are examined with respect to cause, age and sex distribution, and level of amputation. The benefits of this amputation to the bilateral amputee are discussed.
OBJECTIVE To evaluate a newly developed biofeedback device enabling lower-limb amputees to identify various floor conditions. DESIGN Self-control with repeated measures (with and without the biofeedback device) within the amputee group, and group control comparing between amputee and nonamputee groups. SETTING University locomotion laboratory. PARTICIPANTS Five lower-limb amputees and 8 n...
background and aim: motor vehicle accidents are common cause of mortality, morbidity and disability. human factors are principle cause for frequency of motor vehicle accident. in most studies, 52-40% lower limb injuries are trauma from a motorcycle accident. these accidents cause high financial cost and harm for society. materials and methods: in this study, patients with lower limb injuries re...
Amputees using passive ankle-foot prostheses tend to expend more metabolic energy during walking than non-amputees, and reducing this cost has been a central motivation for the development of active ankle-foot prostheses. Increased push-off work at the end of stance has been proposed as a way to reduce metabolic energy use, but the effects of push-off work have not been tested in isolation. In ...
The kinematics of the body center mass (bCoM) may provide crucial information supporting rehabilitation process people with transfemoral amputation. use magneto-inertial measurement units (MIMUs) is promising as it allow in-the-field bCoM motion monitoring. Indeed, acceleration might be obtained by fusing estimated accelerations segments’ centers (sCoM), formers being computed from measured seg...
Temporary or preparatory prostheses for use by lower-extremity amputees have been mentioned frequently and used occasionally for many years (1, 2, 3, 4, 5), but they have not been adopted readily in the United States. Many reasons have been given why preliminary fitting has not been done and these have included: 1. stump damage because of malfitting plaster or other temporary socket, 2. rapid s...
Ignacio A. Gaunaurd, PhD, MSPT; Robert S. Gailey, PhD, PT; COL (Ret) Paul F. Pasquina, MD Since September 11, 2001, the United States has become involved in two major conflicts [1]. As of December 3, 2012, the Congressional Research Service reported that the number of battle-injury amputations from Operation New Dawn, Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) was 1,71...
The residual limb within the prosthesis, is often subjected to tensile or fatigue stress with varying temperatures. and temperatures difference which faced by amputee during his daily activities will produces an environmental media for growth of fungi bacteria in addition damage that occurs prosthesis minimizingthe life prosthetic causing disconfirm feeling amputee.
 In this paper, a mecha...
