We tested whether directional selection on an index-based wing character in Drosophila melanogaster affected developmental stability and patterns of directional asymmetry. We selected for both an increase (up selection) and a decrease (down selection) of the index value on the left wing and compared patterns of fluctuating and directional asymmetry in the selection index and other wing traits a...

Mechanisms underlying pure tactile attentional selection were investigated. Tactile imperative stimuli were preceded by symbolic tactile cues directing attention to the left or right (directional cues), or to both hands (non-directional cues). Comparison of ERP waveforms on directional and non-directional cue trials showed that attentional modulations at N140 and P200 components reflect mainly ...

Single neurons were recorded in owl monkey middle temporal visual cortex (MT). Directional neurons showed direction-selective adaptation to pattern motion: responses to motion in the preferred direction were reduced by adaptation to motion in the preferred direction and enhanced by adaptation in the opposite direction. Non-directional neurons did not show significant adaptation.

facial expressions are the most powerful and direct means of presenting human emotions and feelings and offer a window into a persons’ state of mind. in recent years, the study of facial expression and recognition has gained prominence; as industry and services are keen on expanding on the potential advantages of facial recognition technology. as machine vision and artificial intelligence advan...

Facial expression recognition is a research issue. An Age classification is one of a facial expression recognition system and it is based on facial representation from human face images. In this paper we are using classification system for gray-scale facial images. The present paper proposes procedure for extracting the local texture features on a facial image. In this paper, the Motif Patterns...

When a local colonization in a new niche occurs, the new derived population should be subject to different selective pressures from that in the original parental population; consequently it is likely that many loci will be subject to directional selection. In such a quick adaptation event through environmental changes, it is reasonable to consider that selection utilizes genetic variations accu...

This paper presents a new image indexing and retrieval algorithm by integrating color (HSV color histogram) and texture (directional binary wavelet patterns (DBWP)) features. For color feature, first the RGB image is converted to HSV image, and then histograms are constructed from HSV spaces. For texture feature, an 8-bit grayscale image is divided into eight binary bit-planes, and then binary ...

In this paper, we propose a novel local feature descriptor, Local Gaussian Structural Pattern (LGSP), for face recognition that encodes the directional information of the face’s textures (i.e., the texture’s structure), producing a more discriminant code than other state-of-the-art methods. Each micro-pattern’s structure is computed by using a derivative-Gaussian compass mask, which is more rob...

The concept of a local audio environment is to have sound playback locally restricted such that, ideally, adjacent regions of an indoor or outdoor space could exhibit their own individual audio content without interfering with each other. This would enable people to listen to their content of choice without disturbing others next to them, yet, without any headphones to block conversation. In pr...
