In this paper, a method to synthesize controllers that achieve globally optimal robust performance within any prespecified tolerance, against structured norm-bounded time-varying and/or nonlinear uncertainty is developed. The performance measure considered is the infinity to infinity induced norm of a system’s transfer function. The method developed utilizes linear relaxation techniques to solv...

Systems and control theory has long been a rich source of problems for the numerical linear algebra community. In many problems, conditions on analytic functions of a complex variable are usually evaluated by solving a special generalized eigenvalue problem. In this paper we develop a general framework for studying such problems. We show that for these problems, solutions can be obtained by eit...

| In this paper dynamic exponent-based electronics is introduced as a good candidate for overcoming some of the limitations of classic linear-based electronics. However, the use of the exponential relation as a primitive for the synthesis of electronic circuits implies that we have to deal with analysis and synthesis of dynamic nonlinear circuits. The linear time-varying approximation appears t...

In this note, we present a new approach to the problem of designing a digital proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller for a given but arbitrary linear time invariant plant. By using the Tchebyshev representation of a discrete-time transfer function and some new results on root counting with respect to the unit circle, we show how the digital PID stabilizing gains can be determined by ...

In this paper, an algorithm for order reduction of linear multivariable systems is proposed using the combined advantages of the dominant pole retention method and the error minimization by Genetic algorithm. The denominator of the reduced order transfer function matrix is obtained by retaining the dominant poles of the original system while the numerator terms of the lower order transfer matri...

The response of a linear time-invariant process on a stochastic input signal is characterized by the transfer function. Unknown past inputs and puture output are s0u1'ces of inaccuracy in relating a finite segment of an output signal via an estimated transfer function to the corresponding input segment. These end effects are usually characterized with error bounds on the Fourier transform of th...

A new method for identifying Hammerstein/Wiener models is proposed, where the parameters of a piecewise linear characteristic and a linear transfer function are estimated by recursive least-squares (RLS). Using smooth validity functions and an adaptive algorithm for optimal partitioning of the local linear models an efficient and accurate model can be identified.

One obstacle in connecting robust control with models generated from prediction error identification is that very few control design methods are able to directly cope with the ellipsoidal parametric uncertainty regions that are generated by such identification methods. In this contribution we present a sufficient condition for the existence of a H∞ state feedback controller for the multi-input/...
