ABSTRACT Community structure is a common attribute of many social networks, which would give us a better understanding of the networks. However, as the social networks grow lager and lager nowadays, the Pareto Principle becomes more and more notable which makes traditional community discovery algorithms no longer suitable for them. This principle explains the unbalanced existence of two differe...

Hain’s trapezoidation algorithm is a fast, practical algorithm for the reduction of simple polygons into horizontally aligned trapezoids partitioned into a minimal collection of trapezoid sequences. An extension to this algorithm is described which allows trapezoidation of simple polygons with an arbitrary number of non-intersecting holes. The minimal computational cost per hole is a traversal ...

Deformable models have recently been accepted as a standard technique to segment diierent features in facial images. Despite they give a good approximation of the salient features in a facial image, the resulting shapes of the segmentation process seem somewhat artiicial with respect to the natural feature shapes. In this paper we show that active contour models (in particular, rubber snakes) g...

This work deals with the evaluation of diphenyl sulphide as a corrosion inhibitor for zinc in 0.5N HCl and 0.5N H2SO4 by conventional weight loss and gasometric methods. Results indicate that diphenyl sulphide exhibited high inhibition efficiencies in both the acids but performed better in 0.5N H2SO4 than in 0.5N HCl. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with increase in the inhibito...

This paper presents a new method suitable for shape classification, inspired by the early processing levels of the human visual system. It extracts a description for any simple 2-dimensional shape having a closed contour, regardless of its size, rotation and position, in affordable computational cost. The paper introduces a new approach to the modeling of the hypercolumns of the primary visual ...

To this point, we have assumed that all individuals are the same. To consider the distributional impact of the tax system, we will have to alter that assumption. We have seen that di¤erential lump sum transfers can move the economy along the Pareto frontier. However, the fact that a point like A (Figure 11) is Pareto e¢ cient does not necessarily imply that it is better than point B. As Samuels...

The aim of this paper is to analyze the array synthesis for 5 G massive MIMO systems in the line-of-sight working condition. The main result of the numerical investigation performed is that non-uniform arrays are the natural choice in this kind of application. In particular, by using non-equispaced arrays, we show that it is possible to achieve a better average condition number of the channel m...

An algorithm for the automatic extraction of speakers lips in video sequences is presented here. Our goal is to extract minimum face feature parameters, vital for audio-visual communication, in adverse conditions and at a very low bit rate coding. Our method uses spatial (region and contour) and temporal (similarity function) information from Luminance and Hue components. A new literal inverse ...

Shape-adaptive texture coding is often being perceived as a mean to achieve increased coding efficiency, e.g. due to a better representation of correlation properties along the boundary between two objects which should lead to a higher transform gain. However, if data rates demand a lossy cncoding of contours, an improvement in transform gain becomes questionable. This paper investigates the po...

Region-based active contour model (ACM) has been extensively used in medical image segmentation and Chan & Vese’s (C-V) model is one of the most popular ACM methods. We propose to incorporate into the C-V model a weighting function to take into consideration the fact that different locations in an image with differing distances from the active contour have differing importance in generating the...
