BACKGROUND Pathological laughter can be a sign of epilepsy, psychiatric illness, effect of toxins or psychotropic drugs or of structural brain disease. METHOD Case Studies. RESULT Two patients developed inappropriate uncontrollable laughter following intravenous sodium valproate for treatment of epilepsy.
