The development of models for electrolytes is challenging due to the long-range nature of electric interactions. We propose a novel implementation of a lattice Boltzmann model that solves a number of limitations and inconsistencies in previously proposed variants and discuss the range of parameters the model can cover. We show how the relevant electrohydrodynamic couplings are recovered analyzi...

In this paper we present an implementation for the QPACE supercomputer of a Lattice Boltzmann model of a fluid-dynamics flow in 2 dimensions. QPACE is a massively parallel application-driven system powered by the Cell processor. We review the structure of the model, describe in details its implementation on QPACE and finally present performance data and preliminary physics results.

In order to study the rheological characteristics of magnetorheological fluids, a novel approach based on the two-component Lattice Boltzmann method with double meshes was proposed, and the micro-scale structures of magnetorheological fluids in different strength magnetic fields were simulated. The framework composed of three steps for the simulation of magnetorheological fluids was addressed, ...

We review and analyze the hybrid quantum-classical NMR computing methodology referred to as Type-II quantum computing. We show that all such algorithms considered so far within this paradigm are equivalent to some classical lattice-Boltzmann scheme. We derive a sufficient and necessary constraint on the unitary operator representing the quantum mechanical part of the computation which ensures t...

Current approaches to Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) are computationally quite expensive for most realistic scientific and engineering applications of Fluid Dynamics such as automobiles or atmospheric flows. The Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM), with its simplified kinetic descriptions, has emerged as an important tool for simulating hydrodynamics. In a heterogeneous computing environment, it ...

We present a general methodology for constructing lattice Boltzmann models of hydrodynamics with certain desired features of statistical physics and kinetic theory. We show how a methodology of linear programming theory, known as Fourier-Motzkin elimination, provides an important tool for visualizing the state space of lattice Boltzmann algorithms that conserve a given set of moments of the dis...

Abstract The discretized equilibrium distributions of the lattice Boltzmann method are presented by using the coefficients of the Lagrange interpolating polynomials that pass through the points related to discrete velocities and using moments of the Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution. The ranges of flow velocity and temperature providing positive valued distributions vary with regulating discrete v...

We present a lattice Boltzmann model to describe the spreading of droplets on topologically patterned substrates. We apply it to model superhydrophobic behaviour on surfaces covered by an array of micron-scale posts. We find that the patterning results in a substantial increase in contact angle, from 110 o to 156 o .
