Volar dislocations of the thumb metacarpophalangeal joint are uncommon and can be associated with rupture of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL). We report a case where a volar thumb dislocation was successfully closed reduced, but instability required open repair of the UCL. Early motion protocol helped achieve favorable results.

background: pelvic ring injuries and sacroiliac dislocations have significant impacts on patient’s quality of life. several techniques have been described for posterior pelvic fixation. the current study has been designed to evaluate the spinopelvic method of fixation for sacroiliac fractures and fracture-dislocations.   methods: between january 2006 and december 2014, 14 patients with sacroili...

Atelosteogenesis is a rare chondrodysplasia characterised by rhizomelic short limbed dwarfism, thoracic hypoplasia, multiple joint dislocations, talipes equinovarus, and early death. The diagnosis is confirmed radiologically: short, distally tapering humeri, absent or hypoplastic fibulae, deficient vertebral ossification with coronal clefting, and anarchic ossification of phalanges are characte...

Musculoskeletal injury and diseases are common presentations in the Emergency Department. Emergency physicians must be versed in the critical procedural skills necessary to diagnose joint infection, manage fractures and dislocations, and assess for compartment syndrome. Arthrocentesis, splinting, dislocation reduction, and the evaluation of limb compartment syndrome are reviewed.

BACKGROUND Hypermobile joints are joints with beyond normal range of motion and may be associated with joint derangements. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of benign joint hypermobility syndrome (BJHS) among soldiers and effect of training courses on related joint instabilities. MATERIALS AND METHODS In a prospective cohort study on 721 soldiers of Iran Army in Isfahan in 2013 the ...

BACKGROUND Conservative treatment of simple elbow dislocations can lead to complications such as persisting pain and restricted joint mobility. The current aim was to identify patients with deteriorated outcome after conservative treatment and to investigate a possible association with initial joint (in)stability. METHODS Sixty-eight patients (mean age 37.1 ± 17.2 years) with simple elbow dis...

Proximal interphalangeal joint dislocations are injuries observed frequently and caused by axial loading on the finger in the extension. In this paper we present a traumatic open finger dislocation due to a ball hitting a wrestler. It was successfully treated with reduction and the volar plate and collateral bond fixation were applied with absorbable sutures.

A newborn girl is described with an association of spondylo-acrodysplasia, mild short limbed dwarfism without significant metaphyseal changes, joint dislocations, and severe immune system dysfunction. This association is distinct from other known immuno-osseous dysplasias, including Schimke dysplasia, ADA deficiency with osseous changes, and Omenn phenotype with short limbed dwarfism.

Distal interphalangeal joint dislocations are only rarely complex and irreducible. We present a case and illustrate our approach to management of this problem. Open reduction is necessary, and preferred approach is volar. It is imperative to identify the injured soft tissue and repair them as is feasible.

While most sternoclavicular joint (SCJ) dislocations can be managed non-operatively with closed reduction, persistent or recurrent instability associated with pain or inability to work necessitates operative management [1]. Non-operative management has further been shown to result in symptomatic degenerative changes in the SCJ [2]. Reconstruction is generally indicated in the setting of symptom...
