Detecting sharp illumination variations such as shadow boundaries is an important problem for radiosity methods. Such illumination variations are captured using a nonuniform mesh that refines the areas exhibiting high illumination gradients. Nonuniform meshing techniques like discontinuity meshing often rely on shadow casting, so their application is computationally expensive. This paper presen...

purpose: to determine factors that affect and predict final visual acuity, retinal attachment, and ocular survival after open-globe injuries. methods: one-hundred sixteen eyes with open globe injuries were evaluated longitudinally from september 2001to february 2004. age, sex, involved eye, best corrected visual acuity (bcva), afferent pupillary defect (apd), size and location of laceration, ca...

OBJECTIVE To establish an animal model for heterotopic ossification (HO) induced by sharp instrument injury in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rat and to investigate its possible mechanism. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 48 male SD rats were divided into 3 groups (n=16). In sham group, incision and suture were performed only in the left leg. Partial tenotomy was performed in the left Achilles tendons i...

Among the visual preferences that guide many everyday activities and decisions, from consumer choices to social judgment, preference for curved over sharp-angled contours is commonly thought to have played an adaptive role throughout human evolution, favoring the avoidance of potentially harmful objects. However, because nonhuman primates also exhibit preferences for certain visual qualities, i...

In this paper we derive a model and a method suitable for robot vision to determine the 3D–positions of single flat, not entirely convex objects from crowded scenes holding many fuzzy similar shaped objects. Preferably our approach aims to objects from natural scenes. We propose to use a fast feature based stereo algorithm to match feature positions we compute from the distance transform and th...

Amorphological scale-space representation is presented based on a morphological strong filter, the levelings. The scale-properties are analysed and illustrated. From one scale to the next, details vanish, but the contours of the remaining objects are preserved sharp and perfectly localised. This paper is followed by a companion paper on pde formulations of levelings.

One of the modern paradigms to develop a system is object oriented analysis and design. In this paradigm, there are several objects and each object plays some specific roles. There is a sequence of activities to develop an analysis model. In the first step, we work in developing an initial use case model. Then in the second step, they identify a number of concepts and build a glossary of partic...
