Abstract Most of the known bulk metallic glasses lack sufficient ductility or toughness when fabricated under conditions resulting in glass formation. To address this major shortcoming, processing techniques to improve that mechanically affect have been developed, however it remains unclear for which formers they work and by how much. Instead manipulating state, we show here an applied strain r...

Abstract This paper compares the microstructure and mechanical evolution in a high-strength quenched micro-alloyed steel during austenitising bending process. Simulation results indicated new finding that stress neutral layer (SNL) tends to move tension zone straining. The hardness gradient detected from centre compression/tension zones was resulted comprehensive factors: First of all, location...

Non-local damage model for strain softening in a machining simulation is presented in this paper. The coupled damage-plasticity model consists of a physically based dislocation density model and a damage model driven by plastic straining in combination with the stress state. The predicted chip serration is highly consistent with the measurement results.

From an analysis of tangent spherical drops in straining flow, Baldessari and Leal conclude that the drop-scale internal circulation, driven by the ambient flow, has a negligible influence on the drainage of the thin liquid film between drops under small-deformation conditions [F. Baldessari, L.G. Leal, J. Colloid Interface Sci. 289 (2005) 262]. However, their conclusion is incorrect as explain...

Internal jugular phlebectasia presents as a soft cystic mass in the neck that appears on straining. We present a case of a 7-year-old girl who presented with a painless soft cystic mass in the neck associated with hoarseness of voice. Based on clinical examination and CT image, diagnosis of right internal jugular phlebectasia was made.

The retention and transport of microsporidium Encephalitozoon intestinales spores in two water-saturated sandy porous media was investigated in this study. The initial breakthrough of the spores in the column effluent occurred essentially simultaneously with that of a non-reactive tracer, indicating no significant velocity enhancement. A large fraction (45-73%) of the spores injected into the c...

Deep knee flexion postures such as kneeling and squatting have been demonstrated, in recent review of occupational knee disorders, as a risk factor of developing knee osteoarthritis (OA). This study investigates a probabilistic method to analyze knee gait kinematics measurements of workers exposed to knee straining postures to determine if they are in any way similar to those of knee OA patient...
