Thirty-three seronegative adolescents were vaccinated with a live rubella vaccine. Serum samples were collected 2 weeks, and 1, 2, 6 and 12 months later. Antibodies were analysed by using ELISA and monoclonal antibodies to different subclasses of human IgG. A proportion (10 out of 33, 30%) of the vaccinees developed low amounts of rubella IgG-class (both IgG1 and IgG3 isotypes) antibodies. Ther...

We introduce μ-Abstract Elementary Classes (μ-AECs) as a broad framework for model theory that includes complete boolean algebras and metric spaces, and begin to develop their classification theory. Moreover, we note that μ-AECs correspond precisely to accessible categories in which all morphisms are monomorphisms, and begin the process of reconciling these divergent perspectives: for example, ...

Although many aspects of hepatic function have been known and studied for a number of years, little is known about the immunological function of the liver. Chronic liver disease is often accompanied by an absolute increase in serum gamma globulin concentration. All the major immunoglobulin classes may be involved, and the elevated globulin is due to increased synthesis rather than decreased met...

Metric Abstract Elementary Classes (MAECs) correspond to an amalgam of the notions of Abstract Elementary Classes (AECs) and Elementary Class in the Continuous Logic. In this work, we study a proof of uniqueness (up to isomorphism) of Limit Models in MAECs [ViZa10a, Za1x], under superstability-like assumptions. Assuming this uniqueness of Limit Models, it is possible to do a preliminar study of...

Immunoglobulin G (IgG) from the rabbit strain Basilea was previously shown to contain two distinct populations of molecules one with light chain belonging to the known lambda isotype and the others to a new kappa-like L chain type. Alloantisera prepared against the Basilea IgG are directed against the kappa-like light chain (anti-bas antisera). All Basilea rabbits express kappa-like chains reco...

The effect of pregnancy on the humoral immune response induced by Trypanosoma cruzi was studied in groups of chronically infected and pregnant mice (IP) or chronically infected and nonpregnant mice (INP) of strain BALB/c. Groups of noninfected and nonpregnant mice (NINP) or noninfected and pregnant mice (NIP) served as controls. The pregnant mice were killed on day 17 of pregnancy. Anti-T. cruz...

Marginal zone (MZ) B cells are thought to be responsible for the first wave of Abs against bacterial Ags. In this study, we assessed the in vivo response of MZ B cells in mice immunized with viral particles derived from the RNA phage Qbeta. We found that both follicular (FO) and MZ B cells responded to immunization with viral particles. MZ B cells responded with slightly faster kinetics, but nu...

Proliferative glomerulonephritis with monoclonal IgG deposits (PGNMID) is a recently described entity. It is featured by glomerular nonorganized monoclonal immunoglobulin G deposits. Monoclonal IgG deposits are associated with glomerular proliferative lesions, mimicking different types of immune-complex glomerulonephritis. We report two classic cases of PGNMID which fulfilled all criteria of th...
