We study the evolution of an evaporating rotating black hole, described by the Kerr metric, which is emitting either solely massless scalar particles or a mixture of massless scalar and nonzero spin particles. Allowing the hole to radiate scalar particles increases the mass loss rate and decreases the angular momentum loss rate relative to a black hole which is radiating nonzero spin particles....

We describe some specific quantum black hole model. It is pointed out that the origin of a black hole entropy is the very process of quantum gravitational collapse. The quantum black hole mass spectrum is extracted from the mass spectrum of the gravitating source. The classical analog of quantum black hole is constructed.

With the recent discovery of very long hole spin decoherence times in GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures of more than 70 ns in two-dimensional hole systems, using the hole spin as a viable alternative to electron spins in spintronic applications seems possible. Furthermore, as the hyperfine interaction with the nuclear spins is likely to be the limiting factor for electron spin lifetimes in zero dime...

We study the Hawking radiation in a monopole black hole background in SO(3) Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs system. We only consider a massless scalar field which does not couple with the Yang-Mills field or Higgs field around the black hole. Starting from a Reissner-Nortström black hole, and assuming that it transits into a monopole black hole at a critical point, we find that the evaporation rate w...

A light-hole exciton is a quasiparticle formed from a single electron bound to a single light hole. This type of fundamental excitation, if confined inside a semiconductor quantum dot, could be advantageous in quantum information science and technology. However, it has been difficult to access it so far, because confinement and strain in conventional quantum dots favour a ground-state single-pa...

Most spin qubit research to date has focused on manipulating single electron spins in quantum dots. However, hole spins are predicted to have some advantages over electron spins, such as reduced coupling to host semiconductor nuclear spins and the ability to control hole spins electrically using the large spin-orbit interaction. Building on recent advances in fabricating high-mobility 2D hole s...

Traumatic macular hole is a disease whose pathogenesis is not fully understood and the best treatment guideline is controversial. We report 2 cases of traumatic macular hole with different treatment approaches. In the first case, a 9-year-old boy presented with a traumatic macular hole secondary to blunt ocular trauma with a stone, and initial vision of 20/300. He underwent surgical repair and ...

 In conventional photonic crystal fibers (PCF’s),the cladding structure is usually formed by air holes with the same diameter arrayed in regular triangular lattice. However, in index guiding PCF’s means in Hole Assisted Fiber, the periodicity in the cladding region is not essential to confine the guiding light in to the high-index core region. Hole Assisted Fiber (HAF) technology is investigat...

The term black hole is usually associated with a large astrophysical object that has formed due to huge gravitational fields that can arise in the center of massive concentrations (see, e.g., ). However, the black hole is an object in itself which should be studied within the domain of physics, irrespective of the interactions with exterior astrophysical plasmas which excite, and are excited by...
