This document provides a discussion of the basic calibration needs and calibration time consumption for the Near Infrared Spectrograph (NIRSpec) on JWST. The current version assumes that slits for multi object spectroscopy will be formed via a microelectromechanical system and that NIRSpec will carry internal continuum and line lamps.

Colliding bodies optimization (CBO) is a new population-based stochastic optimization algorithm based on the governing laws of one dimensional collision between two bodies from the physics. Each agent is modeled as a body with a specified mass and velocity. A collision occurs between pairs of objects to find the global or near-global solutions. Enhanced colliding bodies optimization (ECBO) uses...

Integrable or near-integrable magnetic fields are prominent in the design of plasma confinement devices. Such a field is characterized by existence singular foliation entirely consisting invariant submanifolds. A compact regular leaf (a flux surface) this must be diffeomorphic to two-torus. In neighborhood surface, it known that admits several exact smooth normal forms which lines straight. How...

the analysis of flow in water-distribution networks with several pumps by the content model may be turned into a non-convex optimization uncertain problem with multiple solutions. newton-based methods such as gga are not able to capture a global optimum in these situations. on the other hand, evolutionary methods designed to use the population of individuals may find a global solution even for ...

A framework for understanding the global structure of near-integrable n DOF Hamiltonian systems is proposed. To this aim two tools are developed—the energy-momentum bifurcation diagrams and the branched surfaces. Their use is demonstrated on a few near-integrable 3 DOF systems. For these systems possible sources of instabilities are identified in the diagrams, and the corresponding energy surfa...

Novel method for the global characterization of time series, based on the calculation of fractal dimension of a two-dimensional recurrence plots is proposed. The method is used for the characterization of differences between regular and chaotic systems and for the analysis of human electrocardiogram.

In this work, we demonstrate the promise and perils of texture analysis and texture synthesis applied to near-regular patterns. We propose a novel view of texture as statistical departures from regular patterns. We shall show that a true understanding of near-regular texture structures based on their translation symmetries can enhance existing methods of texture synthesis. Our texture synthesis...
