Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) commonly affects women of childbearing age. We report on a 37-year-old woman who developed symptoms of recurrent syncope in the postpartum period. Her head up tilt test and clinical presentation was consistent with POTS.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS Is the release of allelochemicals by the dominant tussock grass Festuca paniculata responsible for its dominance by inhibiting growth of neighbour grasses in subalpine grasslands? As such a community is also structured by mowing practices, what could be the impact of mowing on allelopathy? METHODS A design was used that isolated allelopathy from resource competition by sep...

Efficient extraction of shape information is essential for proficient reading but the role of cortical mechanisms of shape analysis in word reading is not well understood. We studied cortical responses to written words while parametrically varying the amount of visual noise applied to the word stimuli. In only a few regions along the ventral surface, cortical responses increased with word visib...

OBJECTIVES To evaluate whether the use of adult heart rate (HR) criteria is appropriate for diagnosing orthostatic intolerance (OI) and postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) in children and adolescents, and to establish normative data and diagnostic criteria for pediatric OI and POTS. STUDY DESIGN A total of 106 normal controls aged 8-19 years (mean age, 14.5±3.3 years) underwent standardized ...

BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to determine if there is a difference in the frequency of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) compared to patients with symptoms of orthostatic intolerance and with no evidence of MS or other neurological illness. METHODS We analyzed data gathered from 293 patients who underwent the head-up tilt table t...

Background—Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) induces disabling chronic orthostatic intolerance with an excessive increase in heart rate (HR) upon standing. Beta-blockade is an appealing treatment approach, but there are conflicting preliminary reports. We tested the hypothesis that propranolol will attenuate the tachycardia and improve symptom burden in patients with POTS. In Protocol #1, a ...

The feature interaction problem occurs when the addition of a new feature to a system disrupts the existing services and features This paper describes a tabular notation for specifying the functional behavior of features It also describes how four classes of feature interactions can be detected when features are speci ed in this new notation Our goal is to develop a tool that can automatically ...

BACKGROUND Orthostatic intolerance is characterized by postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) with exaggerated tachycardia, orthostatic symptoms, and "pooling" (which comprises acrocyanosis and dependent edema when upright). My colleagues and I tested the hypothesis that pooling results from increased venous compliance in POTS patients. METHODS AND RESULTS Fifteen patients aged 13 to 19 years w...

Interactive effects of root restriction and atmospheric CO(2) enrichment on plant growth, photosynthetic capacity, and carbohydrate partitioning were studied in cotton seedlings (Gossypium hirsutum L.) grown for 28 days in three atmospheric CO(2) partial pressures (270, 350, and 650 microbars) and two pot sizes (0.38 and 1.75 liters). Some plants were transplanted from small pots into large pot...

Currenly, Madonna lily (Lilium candidum L.) is considered as one of the most important ornamental and perfumery plants. currently propagated via seed or bulb scales. However, derived plants reaches sexual maturity at end five years flower production interrupted in vegetative propagation scales because fertile bulbs are needed source scale. To overcome two obstacles, stems mature were used mater...
