In 2006 the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG) published practice guidelines for the sonographic screening of congenital heart disease (CHD) during the second trimester of pregnancy1. This document described two levels for screening low-risk fetuses for heart anomalies. Firstly, a ‘basic’ scan should be performed by analyzing a four-chamber view of the feta...
The increasing functional integrity of the organism during fetal maturation is connected with increasing complex internal coordination. We hypothesize that time scales of complexity and dynamics of heart rate patterns reflect the increasing inter-dependencies within the fetal organism during its prenatal development. We investigated multi-scale complexity, time irreversibility and fractal scali...
AIMS Detection and careful stratification of fetal heart rate (FHR) is extremely important in all pregnancies. The most lethal cardiac rhythm disturbances occur during apparently normal pregnancies where FHR and rhythm are regular and within normal or low-normal ranges. These hidden depolarization and repolarization abnormalities, associated with genetic ion channelopathies cannot be detected b...
abstract background: a major problem of the first moments of childbirth, especially in “prolonged labor,” is perinatal asphyxia which necessitates neonatal resuscitation. this study aimed at evaluating the alert line of the partogram in recognizing the need for neonatal resuscitation 20–30 s after delivery. materials and methods: 140 full‑term pregnant women were kept under surveillance through...
Recent advances in standardized fetal monitoring nomenclature and interpretation make it possible to construct a standardized approach to intrapartum fetal heart rate management that is evidence-based and reflects consensus in the literature.
We present here 2 cases of acute and 2 cases of chronic massive fetomaternal hemorrhage. A sinusoidal fetal heart rate pattern may indicate chronic fetomaternal hemorrhage, but, when increased variability is observed in fetal monitoring, maternal hemoglobin F should be measured to exclude acute fetomaternal hemorrhage.
Debate surrounds the question of whether the heart is a post-mitotic organ in part due to the lack of an in vivo model in which myocytes are able to actively regenerate. The current study describes the first such mouse model--a fetal myocardial environment grafted into the adult kidney capsule. Here it is used to test whether cells descended from bone marrow can regenerate cardiac myocytes. One...
conclusions overall, incidence of birth trauma in kashan city was lower in comparison with most studies. considering existing risk factors, further monitoring on labor, and delivery management in teaching hospitals are recommended to prevent birth injuries. in addition, careful supervision on students and residents' training should be applied in teaching hospitals. patients and methods in this ...
