The planthopper genus Neodurium Fennah is reviewed and Neoduriumfennahi Chang & Chen, sp. n. (Hemiptera: Fulgoromorpha: Issidae) from China (Yunnan), is described and illustrated. A checklist of the species of Neodurium is given and a key provided for their separation. The female genitalia of Neodurium species are described for the first time.
In the present study, we address Lebinthus cricket species from Luzon (Philippines) being sympatric in Mount Makiling. We describe Lebinthus puyos new species and redescribe the species Lebinthus sanchezi Bolivar, 1889 and select a neotype series. The species Lebinthus makilingus Otte, 2007 is synonymized under Lebinthus sanchezi. For each species we provide complete descriptions of morphology,...
A new genus, Chrysonasma Park, of Lecithoceridae (Gelechioidea) is described based on C. cassiterota (Meyrick) and a new species, C. caliginosa , from the Philippines. The genus is separable from its allies by the colorful wing pattern with leaden metallic longitudinal streaks. A key to the 2 species of the genus is given. Illustrations of the imagos, forewing venation, and male and female geni...
Genitalia are among the fastest evolving morphological traits in arthropods. Among the many hypotheses aimed at explaining this observation, some explicitly or implicitly predict concomitant male and female changes of genital traits that interact during copulation (i.e., lock and key, sexual conflict, cryptic female choice and pleiotropy). Testing these hypotheses requires insights into whether...
This second part of the revision of the Argentine species of Ora Clark, 1865 provides detailed redescriptions, habitus photos, illustrations of male and female genitalia for eight species, an identification key and updated distributions for all the species. A lectotype is hereby designated for Ora bruchi Pic, 1928. Scirtes brevenotatus v. mediolineatus Pic, 1928 and S. brevenotatus wagneri Pic,...
ABNORMALITIES of the accessory female genitalia and an accompanying decrease in fertility were noted in the logenze (12) group of mutants of Drosophila melanogaster (OLIVER and GREEN 1944). The correlation between reduced female fertility and the absence of the spermathecae in individuals homozygous for these mutants led to the suggestion of the need of these structures in Drosophila for high a...
The Migadopini are a small tribe of Carabidae with 47 species that occur in South America, Australia, and New Zealand, in the sub-Antarctic areas. In South America, most of the genera inhabit areas related to sub-Antartic Nothofagus forest except two monogeneric genera, the Ecuadorian genus Aquilex Moret and the Pampean genus Rhytidognathus Chaudoir. These two genera are geographically isolated...
Three species have been recognized in the genus Geoparnus Besuchet, 1978, all collected by sifting ground debris from tropical rainforests of Malaysia. The new species Geoparnus loebli sp. nov. is described; morphological similarities to known species G setifer Besuchet, 1978 and G rhinoceros Kodada, Jach, Ciampor Jr & (Camporova-Zat'ovicova, 2007 are discussed. Habitus of adult, male and femal...
A new species of the genus Castoponera Deeleman-Reinhold, 2001, Castoponera christae sp. n., is described here. The species is closely related to Castoponera lecythus Deeleman-Reinhold, 2001, but can be distinguished by the structures of the male palp and the female genitalia.
