BACKGROUND Orem's self-care model is a nursing model that was introduced with the purpose of improving the self-care of individuals, especially patients suffering from chronic diseases. OBJECTIVES To determining the effect of Orem's self-care model on fatigue in multiple sclerosis patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS This research involved a clinical trial. Sixty-three multiple sclerosis patients...

Fatigue is a frequent symptom reported by persons living with HIV disease and one that affects all aspects of quality of life. To improve quality of care of persons with HIV disease, it is important to address all factors that contribute to fatigue. The purpose of this study was to determine the associations of physiological , psychological, and sociological factors with fatigue in an HIV-infec...

Background: Many clinical trials include multiple patient-reported outcomes (PROs) to measure fatigue as secondary or exploratory endpoints of treatment effectiveness. Often, these instruments have overlapping content. The objective of this study was to compare the combined measurement properties of two fatigue scales, the Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Fatigue (FACIT-Fatigue)...

This paper presents low cycle fatigue (LCF) life prediction of a coated and uncoated exhaust manifolds. First Solidworks software was used to model the exhaust manifolds. A thermal barrier coating system was applied on the tubes c of the exhaust manifolds, consists of two-layer systems: a ceramic top coat (TC), made of yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ), ZrO2-8%Y2O3 and also a metallic bond coat ...

Analytical models that predict modulus degradation in cortical bone subjected to uniaxial fatigue loading in tension and compression are presented. On the basis of experimental observations, damage was modeled as self-limiting for tension but not for compression. These mechanistic uniaxial damage models were then developed into a model for flexural fatigue of cortical bone based on laminated be...

In the present investigation, fatigue crack growth tests under mixed-mode (I and II) overload have been conducted on HSLA steel and subsequently genetic programming has been applied to predict post overload fatigue life. It is observed that the proposed model predicts fatigue life of HSLA steel with reasonable accuracy.

In the present study, a general probabilistic design framework is developed for cyclic fatigue life prediction of metallic hardware using methods that address uncertainty in experimental data and computational model. The methodology involves (i) utilization of fatigue tests data conducted on coupons of Ti6Al4V material (ii) continuum damage mechanics based material constitutive models to simula...

Operator fatigue and time-of-day induced variations in cognitive effectiveness can lead to lapses in attention, slowed reactions, and impaired reasoning and decision-making that has been shown to contribute to accidents, incidents and errors in a host of industrial and military settings. During the past three years, the US Air Force has sponsored the development of a model of human fatigue and ...

1. Abstract Conventional wind turbine blades have been designed using fatigue life predictions based on a fixed wind load distribution that does not fully capture uncertainty of the wind load. This could result in early fatigue failure of blades and eventually increase the maintenance cost of wind turbines. To produce reliable as well as economical wind turbine blades, this paper studies reliab...

The effect of casting pores on the very high cycle fatigue (VHCF) behavior of a directionally solidified (DS) Ni-base superalloy DZ4 is investigated. Casting and hot isostatic pressing (HIP) specimens were subjected to very high cycle fatigue loading in an ambient atmosphere. The results demonstrated that the continuously descending S-N curves were exhibited for both the casting and HIP specime...
