∗ This work has been supported by the European project InterFace and TIC2001-0996 of the Spanish Government The video analysis system described in this paper aims at facial expression recognition consistent with the MPEG4 standardized parameters for facial animation, FAP. For this reason, two levels of analysis are necessary: low level analysis to extract the MPEG4 compliant parameters and high...

Coding of facial emotion expressions is increasingly performed by automated emotion expression scoring software; however, there is limited discussion on how best to score the resulting codes. We present a discussion of facial emotion expression theories and a review of contemporary emotion expression coding methodology. We highlight methodological challenges pertinent to scoring software-coded ...

Human facial plays a very important role in the human’s appearance. Many defects in the face affect the facial appearance, significantly. Facial plastic surgeries can correct the defects on the face. Analysis of facial color images is very important due to its numerous applications in facial surgeries. Different types of facial surgeries, such as Rhinoplasty, Otoplasty, Belpharoplasty and chin ...

In the last decade, the research topic of automatic analysis of facial expressions has become a central topic in machine vision research. Nonetheless, there is a glaring lack of a comprehensive, readily accessible reference set of face images that could be used as a basis for benchmarks for efforts in the field. This lack of easily accessible, suitable, common testing resource forms the major i...

In this paper we explore the utility of nonlinear dimensionality reduction techniques in the realm of facial expression analysis. First, we test the ability of nonlinear techniques to describe the higher nonlinear nature of human facial expressions. We exploit the data-driven model of an embedding to create novel facial expressions. Finally, we composite the facial expressions back on the face.

a r t i c l e i n f o Facial expression analysis has interested many researchers in the past decade due to its potential applications in various fields such as human–computer interaction, psychological studies, and facial animation. Three-dimensional facial data has been proven to be insensitive to illumination condition and head pose, and has hence gathered attention in recent years. In this p...

Research into facial expression recognition has predominantly been applied to face images at frontal view only. Some attempts have been made to produce pose invariant facial expression classifiers. However, most of these atte...

BACKGROUND Altered emotional processing, including reduced emotion facial expression and defective emotion recognition, has been reported in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). However, few studies have objectively investigated facial expression abnormalities in PD using neurophysiological techniques. It is not known whether altered facial expression and recognition in PD are related. OBJ...
