eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (emdr) process encompasses several nervous system components such as medulla, pons, midbrain, cerebellum, basal ganglia, parietal, frontal and occipital lobes. the role of eye movement (em) has been documented previously in relation with cognitive processing mechanisms. by emdr we can reach some parts of memory which were inaccessible before and als...

Heat shock proteins (Hsps) are believed to primarily protect and maintain cell viability under stressful conditions such as those occurring during thermal and oxidative challenges chiefly by refolding and stabilizing proteins. Hsps are found throughout the various tissues of the eye where they are thought to confer protection from disease states such as cataract, glaucoma, and cancer. This mini...

METHODS. PPAR-g expression in human retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells and bovine choroidal endothelial cells (CECs) was determined using an RNase protection assay and Western blot analysis. Two PPAR-g ligands, troglitazone (TRO) and rosiglitazone (RSG; 0.1–20 mM), were used to assess effects on RPE and CEC proliferation and migration and CEC tube formation in response to vascular endotheli...

PURPOSE To determine the impact of interleukin-1 (IL-1) inhibition using IL-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1Ra) in a mouse model of allergic eye disease. METHODS A/J mice sensitized and challenged with cat dander in the eye were treated with topical IL-1Ra or vehicle alone. Control mice were treated with IL-1Ra or vehicle but sensitized and challenged with phosphate-buffered saline alone. Immediat...

Previous National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) publications have addressed the issues of risk and dose limitation in radiation protection and included guidance on specific organs and the lens of the eye. NCRP decided to prepare an updated commentary intended to enhance the previous recommendations provided in earlier reports. The NCRP Scientific Committee 1-23 (SC 1-2...

Scalable Image Communication is useful in multiuser heterogenous environments. In this project, we plan to implement an unequal error protection method for Embedded Foveation Image Coding (EFIC) compressed images, using rate compatible punctured turbo codes. Different portions of the bitstream are protected unequally, based on the importance of data to the end receiver, i.e, human eye. Our prim...

By combining terminal protection of small molecule (folate)-capped DNA probes, exonuclease III signal amplification and gold nanoparticles, we developed a simple and label-free colorimetric assay for highly sensitive detection of folate receptor (FR). A detection limit of 50 fM FR was obtained using UV-vis spectrometry and 10 pM FR could be visualized by the naked eye.

Transconjunctival blepharoplasty is a commonly performed procedure. Corneal protection, avoidance of damage to the inferior oblique muscle of the eye, avoidance of hemorrhage from the fat pads, and adequate fat removal are important considerations when transconjunctival blepharoplasty is performed. The described surgical technique provides consistently satisfactory results and avoids the use of...

BACKGROUND A 55 year old man sustained a severe ocular injury when hit by a cricket ball even though he was wearing a helmet. METHODS A suprachoroidal haemorrhage was drained and dense intravitreal blood was removed. An inferior buckle was applied with the use of intraocular gas. A macular haemorrhage resolved slowly. RESULTS Despite several surgical procedures over 1.5 years, the final vis...
