The preparation of bis-thiazolidinones has been achieved by a one-pot condensation reaction of araldehydes, ethylenediamine and thioglycolic acid in the presence of nano-CuCr2O4 nanoparticles under reflux conditions in toluene. DNA microarrays were used to probe the transcriptional response of Escherichia coli to N,N,N',N'-tetrakis(2-pyridylmethyl)ethylenediamine (TPEN). Fifty-five transcripts were significantly up-regulated, including all of the genes that are regulated by Zur and many that are regulated by Fur. In the same TPEN-treated cells, 46 transcripts were significantly down-regulated.

Herein we demonstrate the use of ethylenediamine bisborane (EDAB) as a suitable hydrogen source for transfer hydrogenation reactions on C-C double bonds mediated by metal nanoparticles. Moreover, EDAB also acts as a reducing agent for carbonyl functionalities in water under metal-free conditions.
