this research examines the behavior of soil-reinforced piles and applied loads based on the analytical method and by using the numerical results of flac3d software for comparison with the analytical results. the analysis was based on a method called virtual retaining wall, the following into consideration: an imaginary retaining wall that passes the footing edge the bearing capacity of footing ...

We propose two algorithms for finding (common) zeroes of finitely many maximal monotone mappings in reflexive Banach spaces. These algorithms are based on the Bregman distance related to a well-chosen convex function and improves previous results. Finally, we mention two applications of our algorithms for solving equilibrium problems and convex feasibility problems.

Using polymer elastic theory and known RNA free energies, we construct a Monte Carlo algorithm to simulate the single RNA folding and unfolding by mechanical force on the secondary structure level. For the constant force ensemble, we simulate the force-extension curves of the P5ab, P5abc deltaA, and P5abc molecules in equilibrium. For the constant extension ensemble, we focus on the mechanical ...

In this paper, we aim at exploring how individual location decisions affect the shape of a growing city and, more precisely, how they may add up to a configuration that diverges from equilibrium configurations formulated ex-ante. To do so, we provide a two-sector city model merging a static equilibrium analysis with agent-based simulations. Results show that under strong agglomeration effects, ...

In the framework of spatial competition, two or more players strategically choose a location in order to attract consumers. It is assumed standardly that consumers with the same favorite location fully agree on the ranking of all possible locations. To investigate the necessity of this questionable and restrictive assumption, we model heterogeneity in consumers’ distance perceptions by individu...

We introduce an approach to derive an effective scalar field theory for the glass transition; the fluctuating field is the overlap between equilibrium configurations. We apply it to the case of constrained liquids for which the introduction of a conjugate source to the overlap field was predicted to lead to an equilibrium critical point. We show that the long-distance physics in the vicinity of...

A simple fluid, described by pointlike particles interacting via the Lennard-Jones potential, is considered under confinement in a slit geometry between two walls at distance L_{z} apart for densities inside the vapor-liquid coexistence curve. Equilibrium then requires the coexistence of a liquid "bridge" between the two walls, and vapor in the remaining pore volume. We study this equilibrium f...

In the middle of the nineteenth century, two major scientific theories emerged about the evolution of natural systems over time. Thermodynamics, as refined by Boltzmann, viewed nature as decaying toward a certain death of random disorder in accordance with the second law of thermodynamics. This equilibrium seeking, pessimistic view of the evolution of natural systems is contrasted with the para...

We address the problem of computing a Walrasian equilibrium price in an ascending auction with gross substitutes valuations. In particular, an auction market is considered where there are multiple differentiated items and each item may have multiple units. Although the ascending auction is known to find an equilibrium price vector in finite time, little is known about its time complexity. The m...
