By means of spin-polarized electron coincidence spectroscopy we explore the fundamental issue of spin-resolved contributions to the exchange-correlation hole in many-electron systems. We present a joint experimental and theoretical study of correlated electron pair emission from a ferromagnetic Fe(001) surface induced by spin-polarized low-energy electrons. We demonstrate that the contribution ...

The electronic spin associated with the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centre in diamond interacts with an environment formed by isotopic impurities and paramagnetic defects; the strength of these interactions depends on the location of each impurity relative to the NV centre. From the electron spin resonance spectra of individual NV centres we infer the possible values and signs of hyperfine splittings...

We show that the electron transmittivity of single electrons propagating along a 1D wire in the presence of two magnetic impurities is affected by the entanglement between the impurity spins. For suitable values of the electron wave vector, there are two maximally entangled spin states which respectively make the wire completely transparent whatever the electron spin state, or strongly inhibits...

Energy relaxation is studied in the spin-polarized disordered electron systems in the diffusive regime. We derive a quantum kinetic equation in which the kernel of the electron-electron collision integral explicitly depends on the electron magnetization. As a consequence, the inelastic scattering rate has a nonmonotonic dependence on the spin polarization of the system.

Pulsed electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy of the photoexcited, metastable triplet state of the oxygen-vacancy center in silicon reveals that the lifetime of the m(s)=±1 sublevels differs significantly from that of the m(s)=0 state. We exploit this significant difference in decay rates to the ground singlet state to achieve nearly ~100% electron-spin polarization within the triplet. We...

Based on the Noether's theorem, we develop systematically and rigorously the spin-dependent formulation of the conservation laws. The effect of the electronic polarization due to the spin-orbit coupling is included in the Maxwell equations. The polarization is related to the antisymmetric components of spin current, and it provides a possibility to measure the spin current directly. The varianc...

We derive the transport equations for two-dimensional electron systems with Rashba spin-orbit interaction and short-range spin-independent disorder. In the limit of slow spatial variations, we obtain coupled diffusion equations for the electron density and spin. Using these equations we calculate electric-field induced spin accumulation and spin current in a finite-size sample for an arbitrary ...

Spin is the only internal degree of freedom of an electron, and that raises two interesting, closely related questions. First, what kind of new physics emerges when the processes traditionally attributed separately to electron charge and electron spin become closely interconnected? And second, to what sort of new electronic devices might this physics lead us? Success in applications has the pot...

in this paper, the hartree-fock method has been formulated to investigate some of the ground state properties of quasi-one-dimensional interacting electron gas in the presence of the magnetic field. the bare coulomb interaction between electrons has been assumed. for this system, we have also computed some of its thermodynamic and magnetic properties such as the energy, pressure, incompressibil...

Along with its well known charge and mass, the electron also carries an intrinsic angular momentum, or spin. The rules of quantum mechanics allow us to measure only the probability that the electron spin is in one of two allowed spin states. When a beam carries a net excess of electrons in one of these two allowed spin states, the beam is said to be polarized. The beam polarization may be measu...
