we evaluated the ability of spectral-domain optic coherence tomography (sd-oct) to differentiate large physiological optic disc cupping (lpc) from glaucomatous cupping in eyes with intraocular pressure (iop) within the normal range.â we prospectively enrolled patients with glaucoma or presumed lpc. participants â had optic discs with confirmed or suspected glaucomatous damage (defined as a ver...
PURPOSE The mechanism of cupping reversal seen after lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) in pediatric glaucoma is unknown. Theories include forward movement of the lamina cribrosa or shrinkage of a stretched scleral canal. Our study aimed to quantify changes in optic disc size occurring in children who had undergone glaucoma surgery. DESIGN Retrospective, single-center, observational case ser...
Let Y ∈ ∆2 be Martin-Löf-random. Then there is a promptly simple set A such that for each Martin-Löf-random set Z, Y ≤T A ⊕ Z ⇒ Y ≤T Z. When Y = Ω, one obtains a c.e. non-computable set A which is not weakly Martin-Löf cuppable. That is, for any Martin-Löf-random set Z, if ∅′ ≤T A⊕ Z, then ∅′ ≤T Z.
We prove that a set is K-trivial if and only if it is not weakly ML-cuppable. Further, we show that a set below zero jump is K-trivial if and only if it is not ML-cuppable. These results settle a question of Kučera, who introduced both cuppability notions.
Objectives. Reduction in serum lipoproteins, especially LDL cholesterol, is a preventive approach against atherosclerosis. Bloodletting has been a recommended method to reduce serum lipoprotein concentrations. Present study was conducted to investigate the effects of wet cupping as a method of bloodletting on serum lipoproteins. In a randomized controlled trial, 47 men, 18-25 years old, without...
OBJECTIVES The aims of this study were to investigate whether there is a gap between evidence of traditional medicine (TM) interventions in East-Asian countries from the current Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) and evidence from current systematic reviews and meta-analyses (SR-MAs) and to analyze the impact of this gap on present CPGs. METHODS We examined 5 representative TM interventions ...
Two experiments were conducted to compare techniques to maximise the amount of milk harvested mechanically from Poll Dorset ewes. The treatments were double cupping, machine stripping, Sagi hook, a negative control (no extra stripping applied) and a positive control (residual milk withdrawn after injecting 5 IU of oxytocin). In the first experiment it was shown that the amount of milk collected...
Methods We included all RCTs on cupping therapy for facial paralysis, combination of cupping therapy and other TCM treatments versus other non-TCM therapies were excluded. We searched four databases. All searches ended in December 2010. Methodological qualities of the included trials were evaluated according to criteria of Cochrane Reviewer’s Handbook. Outcome data were summarized using risk ra...
In 1851, the introduction of the ophthalmoscope by Von Helmholtz revolutionized ophthalmology. With the ophthalmoscope, Von Graefe and others at the time were the first to visualize the optic disc of blind patients in whom the eyeballs were firm but noncongested. They classified this condition as simple glaucoma and labeled the appearance of the optic disc as ‘cupped’. Since then, the term ‘cup...
