Marine dissolved organic matter (DOM) is one of the largest reservoirs of reduced carbon on Earth. In the dark ocean (>200 m), most of this carbon is refractory DOM. This refractory DOM, largely produced during microbial mineralization of organic matter, includes humic-like substances generated in situ and detectable by fluorescence spectroscopy. Here we show two ubiquitous humic-like fluoropho...

We propose a novel optical design of organic solar cell with a hybrid plasmonic system, which comprises a plasmonic cavity coupled with a dielectric core-metal shell nanosphere. From a rigorous solution of Maxwell's equations, called volume integral equation method, optical absorption of the active polymer material has a four-fold increase. The significant enhancement mainly attributes to the c...

Photothermal Therapy In article number 2301739, Wenbo Hu and co-workers present an excimer-mediated intermolecular nonradiative (interNR) decay channel to produce a giant photothermal effect for high-efficient in vivo phototheranostics. A deep understanding of the interNR provides novel guidelines developing more advanced organic materials.

In this paper, we study the robust technique of stimulated Raman adiabatic passage in an optical cavity considering decoherence effects of atomic spontaneous emission and cavity decay. Numerical solution of Liouville equation shows that the population transfer of the system is more sensitive to the cavity decay than the atomic spontaneous emission.

Amino acids are excellent biomarkers in the search for life on Mars because they are essential for biology as we know it and they are robust enough to survive for billions of years in the cold and dry Martian environment. However, amino acids and other organic compounds on Mars are exposed to the ionizing radiation from space and from the decay of radionuclides. This process and its role in the...

The number of historical open-air sites built of stone are relatively limited in comparison to the other historical artificial in Iran, but these sites include great significance in terms of value, historic and their knowledge of past. Since these stone poen-air sites are generally about two thousand years old, they have been exposed to decay factors for a long time. Many information and data o...

Introduction: Internal exposure to radon gas progeny can lead to serious biologic damages to the lung tissue. The aim of this study was to evaluate the absorbed dose by lung tissue due to the exposure from short-lived radioactive products of radon (222Rn) decay using Monte Carlo simulation. Material and Methods: A lung equivalent p...

The effects of a chronic aluminum (Al) exposure on biliary secretory function, with special emphasis on hepatic handling of non-bile salt organic anions, was investigated. Male Wistar rats received, intraperitoneally, either 27 mg/kg body weight of Al, as Al hydroxide [Al (+) rats], or the vehicle saline [Al (-) rats] three times a week for 3 months. Serum and hepatic Al levels were increased b...

Coastal seas constitute a link between land and the open ocean, and therefore play an important role in the global carbon cycle. Large amounts of carbon, of both terrestrial and marine origin, transit and are transformed in these waters, which belong to the more productive areas of the oceans. Despite much research has been done on the subject, there are still many unknown factors in the coasta...

Algae and cyanobacteria are important contributors to the natural organic matter (NOM) of eutrophic water resources. The objective of this work is to increase knowledge on the modifications of algal organic matter (AOM) properties in the long term to anticipate blooms footprint in such aquatic environments. The production of AOM from an alga (Euglena gracilis) and a cyanobacteria (Microcystis a...
