The study of chromosomal aberrations has facilitated the understanding of tumorigenesis. By applying molecular genetic techniques to regions highlighted by cytogenetic study, many genes important in tumorigenesis have been identified. This review will describe the cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetic techniques used to identify these changes. The clinical information that they can provide, inc...
Ring chromosome 22 [r(22)], a rare cytogenetic finding, has been described in nearly 70 cases to date. Cytogenetic investigations were carried out on a 5-year-old male child with microcephaly and intellectual disability. Cytogenetic investigations revealed his karyotype to be 46,XY,r(22). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of an r(22) anomaly from India.
We treated 261 patients with Philadelphia chromosome (Ph)-positive chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in chronic phase after failure of IFNwith the Bcr-Abl tyrosine kinase inhibitor imatinib mesylate (400 mg/day given p.o.) and analyzed hematological and cytogenetic responses, longterm prognosis, factors associated with achievement of major cytogenetic response and survival, and comparative surviva...
Cytogenetic dosimetry plays an important role in the triage and medical management of affected people in radiological incidents/accidents. Cytogenetic biodosimetry uses different methods to estimate the absorbed dose in the exposed individuals, and each approach has its advantages and disadvantages. Premature chromosome condensation (PCC) assay presents several advantages that hopefully fulfill...
Background: Chamomile essential oil (CEO) hauls out from Matricaria chamomilla L., is a well-known anti-oxidant. Oxidative stress induces clastogenic and biochemical disorders after γ-irradiation of animals. Materials and Methods: Mice were divided into five groups. Control group received vehicle only. &nbs...
multiple myeloma (mm), is the second most common blood cancer after non-hodgkin’s lymphoma. genetic changes, structural and numerical chromosome anomalies, are involved in pathogenesis of mm, and are among the most important prognostic factors of disease-associated patient survival. micrornas (mirnas) are small 19-22 nucleotide single-stranded rnas involved in important cellular processes. cyto...
UNLABELLED The aim of the study was to improve cytogenetic diagnostics and monitoring of myelofibrosis and to reveal the spectrum of cytogenetic abnormalities in patients from Ukraine. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 42 patients (23 females and 19 males) with myelofibrosis was studied using different cytogenetic methods. Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) was added by the new meth...
Interferon (IFN) therapy of early chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) frequently produces partial or complete cytogenetic remission of the disease. Patients with complete cytogenetic remission often continue on therapy for several years with bone marrow showing only diploid (normal) metaphases. We studied hematopoiesis in five female patients with major cytogenetic remissions from CML during IFN...
abstract background: acute meyloid leukemia (aml) in adults is known to be a heterogeneous disease with diverse chromosome abnormalities. some of these chromosome abnormalities are found with a high incidence in populations from specific geographical areas and ethnic societies. therefore, we studied the cytogenetic features of aml cases in contrasting societies of iran and india. methods: cytog...
