One hundred and fifty-one cutaneous reactions occurred during 1200 anaesthetics in which atracurium was given. The majority occurred in females less than 70 years old. Bronchospasm and serious hypotension did not occur, and it is concluded that a history of allergic response or asthma is not a contraindication to the use of atracurium.

Background: Adverse cutaneous drug reactions are unwarranted effects of modern medicine. These unfortunate events can assume any morphology from simple exanthem to full blown toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), and can simulate and mimic many diseases. Sometimes it is difficult to recognize the cause, but they may be due to polypharmacy or self-administration of medications. The analytical data f...

Symmetrical drug-related intertriginous and flexural exanthema (SDRIFE) is a cutaneous drug reaction characterized by erythema over the buttocks, thighs, groin, and flexural regions most commonly associated with the use of beta-lactam antibiotics. Although the exact pathophysiology of this disease remains unknown, it is theorized to be the result of a delayed hypersensitivity response presentin...

Immunologically mediated drug reactions have been traditionally classified as unpredictable based on the fact that they cannot be predicted strictly on the pharmacological action of the drug. Such adverse drug reactions are associated with considerable morbidity and include severe cutaneous adverse reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis and the drug hypersensitivi...

Toxic epidermal necrolysis and Stevens-Johnson syndrome are rare, life treating cutaneous reactions. Most cases of toxic epidermal necrolysis are drug induced. The drugs with the highest estimated incidence include co-trimoxazloe (trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole), sulfadoxine-pyrethamine, and carbamazepine. Among other drugs, the reported reaction rates are relatively low for lamotrigine and sulb...
