We evaluated the presence of air contamination with carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) in medical units where patients with CRAB pneumonia were hospitalized, and in Obstetrics and Gynecology units with open-air ventilation in-patient settings. There was no evidence of CRAB contamination in either of the units.

OBJECTIVES In this study, multilocus sequence typing (MLST) was used to describe the genetic backgrounds of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) and carbapenem-susceptible A. baumannii (CSAB) from multiple cities of China. METHODS One hundred and fifty-two CRAB and 74 CSAB isolates obtained from 16 cities of China were selected for molecular characterization by MLST. eBURST was...

BACKGROUND Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) is associated with nosocomial infections worldwide. Here, we used phage as a potential agent to evaluate the efficacy of daily cleaning practices combined with a bacteriophage-containing aerosol against CRAB. METHODS A two-phase prospective intervention study was performed at a 945-bed public teaching hospital. From March to Decem...

The effects of the acanthocephalan parasites Profilicollis antarcticus and P. novaezelandensis on the fecundity and mortality of three species of shore crab (Macrophthalmus hirtipes, Hemigrapsus edwardsi and H. crenulatus) are examined. The number of eggs produced by female crabs was strongly correlated (all P<0.05) with carapace width; parasite load was not a significant determinant of female ...

The crustacean exoskeleton presents several functions including the stabilization of the whole body of the animal, resistance to mechanical loads, and protection to the environment and against predators [1]. The structure of crustacean exoskeleton consists of an organic matrix constituted by α-chitin, proteins and carotenoid pigments and an inorganic fraction where calcium carbonate is the main...
