The mechanism for the propagation of strangelets with low baryon number through the atmosphere of the Earth has been explored. It has been shown that, under suitable initial conditions, such strangelets may indeed reach depths near mountain altitudes with mass numbers and charges close to the observed values in cosmic ray experiments.

The neutron background at the underground laboratory at Boulby-a site for several dark matter experiments-is discussed. Special emphasis is put on the neutron background produced by cosmic-ray muons. The most recent versions of the muon propagation code MUSIC, and particle transport code FLUKA are used to evaluate muon and neutron fluxes. The results of simulations are compared with experimenta...

Using CompHEP package we’ve made the detailed estimate of the influence of double ee pair production (DPP) by photons on the propagation of ultra high energy electromagnetic (EM) cascade. We show that in the models in which cosmic ray photons energy reaches few×103 EeV refined DPP analysis may lead to substantial difference in predicted photon spectrum compared to previous rough estimates.

The clustering of ultra high energy cosmic ray events suggests that they have originated from compact sources. One of the possible physical mechanisms by which ultra high energy nuclei reach the Earth from far away astrophysical sources (quasars or BL Lac objects) evading the Greisen-Zatsepin-Kuzmin (GZK) cut-off is by violation of Lorentz invariance. Assuming that there is violation of Lorentz...

The quasilinear theory for cosmic ray propagation is a well known and widely accepted theory. In this paper, we discuss the different contributions to the pitch-angle FokkerPlanck coefficient from large and small scales for slab geometry using the damping model of dynamical turbulence. These examinations will give us a hint on the limitation range where quasilinear approximation is a good appro...

We discuss the properties of cosmic ray nuclearites, from the point of view of their search with large nuclear track detector arrays exposed at different altitudes, in particular with the SLIM experiment at the Chacaltaya high altitude lab (5290 m a.s.l.). We present calculations concerning their propagation in the Earth atmosphere and discuss their possible detection with CR39 and Makrofol nuc...

The investigation of very high energy cosmic rays and their interactions are inherently connected subjects of astroparticle physics. On one hand the understanding of cosmic ray interactions is needed to study the flux, acceleration and propagation of cosmic rays. For example, the high energy cosmic ray flux can only be measured by linking secondary particle cascades observed in detectors or the...

We calculate the flux of neutrinos generated by the propagation of ultra-high energy nuclei over cosmological distances. The propagation takes into account the interactions with cosmic background radiations including the CMB and the most recent estimates of higher energy (infra-red, optical, and ultra violet) backgrounds. We assume that the composition of ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) ...
