This paper explores some of the common difficulties in interpreting the ALARP principle, and traces the potential effects of these difficulties on system risk. We introduce two categories of risk reduction approach which permit us to characterise the risk profile of a system in more detail and discuss their application to Systems of Systems (SoS).
The complete blood count (CBC), serum chemistry profile, and urinalysis are the cornerstones of clinical laboratory assessment. It is important to perform all the tests concurrently on presentation, particularly in sick patients. Interpreting one test or one group of tests without the others is prone to diagnostic errors. It is not our intention to provide veterinarians with every interpretatio...
Identifying fluency parameters for a machine-learning-based automated interpreting assessment system
Fluency is an important yet difficult-to-measure criterion in interpreting assessment. This empirical study of English-Chinese consecutive aims to identify fluency parameters for a machine-learning-based automated assessment system. The main findings include: (a) evidence supports the choice median values as cut-offs unfilled pauses and articulation rate; (b) it informs selection outliers parti...
OBJECTIVES When monitoring patients over time, clinicians may struggle to distinguish 'real changes' in consecutive blood parameters from so-called natural fluctuations. In practice, they have to do so by relying on their clinical experience and intuition. We developed Labtracker+, a medical app that calculates the probability that an increase or decrease over time in a specific blood parameter...

Some reflections on Robert Rosen, Chu and Ho, and Louie.
Abstract This study tested the effects of consecutive and simultaneous interpreting modes in a simulated police interview, addressing four research questions: (1) Does mode lead to more accurate than mode? (2) Do language combinations moderate performance similarly qualified interpreters? (3) experience legal settings increase accuracy SI? (4) Which do interpreters perceive require mental effor...
