Total DNA of Streptococcus uberis from cows with mastitis was analyzed by DNA amplification fingerprinting (DAF) and compared with restriction endonuclease fingerprinting (REF). DAF grouped 22 strains into 15 distinct patterns, while REF grouped them into 12 patterns. These results suggest that DAF is a useful technique for subtyping strains of S. uberis.

Separating codes, initially introduced to test automaton, have revived lately in the study of fingerprinting codes, which are used for copyright protection. Separating codes play their role in making the fingerprinting scheme secure agains coalitions of pirates. We provide here better bounds, constructions and generalizations for these codes.

The rapid expansion of smartphones’ market coupled with the advances in mobile computing technology has opened up doors for new mobile services and applications. Quite a few of these services require the knowledge of the exact location of their handsets. Although, existing global positioning systems (GPS) perform best in outdoor environments, they have poor performance indoors. This has initiat...

Repetitive sequence-based polymerase chain reaction fingerprinting was used to characterize 23 vancomycin-nonsusceptible enterococcal isolates from 2003 to 2004. Five genetically related clusters spanned geographically distinct referring centers. DNA fingerprinting showed infant-to-infant transmission from referring institutions. Thus, community healthcare facilities are a source of vancomycin-...

In this study, the BOX-PCR fingerprinting technique was evaluated for the discrimination of clinical Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates. All isolates were typeable and nearly half showed unique banding patterns. According to our results, BOX-PCR fingerprinting is applicable for typing of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates and can be considered a useful complementary tool for epidemiological studies o...

In recent years, content identification based on digital fingerprinting attracts a lot of attention in different emerging applications. In this paper, we perform the information–theoretic analysis of finite length digital fingerprinting systems. We show that the identification capacity over the Binary Symmetric Channel (BSC) is achievable by using Bounded Distance Decoder (BDD).

The fingerprinting technique consists in making the copies of a digital object unique by embedding a different set of marks in each copy. However, a coalition of dishonest users can create pirate copies that try to disguise their identities. We show how equidistant, binary codes that can be used as fingerprinting codes.

BACKGROUND We evaluated the efficacy of multilocus sequence typing (MLST) for assessing the genetic relationship among Candida albicans isolates from patients with candidemia in a hospital setting. METHODS A total of 45 C. albicans isolates from 21 patients with candidemia were analyzed. The MLST results were compared with results obtained by Southern blot hybridization (C1 fingerprinting) an...

This paper presents a perception oriented video fingerprinting technique based on the level of motion within the video. We describe and demonstrate the technique. The results show that motion detection can be used as the basis for fingerprinting of movie files.
