Concomitant adenocarcinoma and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, both located in the intestinal tract, are unusual. Collision tumors of the colon on the other hand are extremely rare neoplasms. A case of true collision tumor of a marginal zone lymphoma and a moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma of the ascending colon (hepatic flexure) is reported. Simultaneously, a third primary is identified as foll...

Epidemiological studies have provided convincing evidence that obesity increases the risk for cancers of the oesophagus (adenocarcinoma), colon, pancreas, breast (post-menopausal), endometrium and kidney. The magnitude of the increase in risk varies between cancer sites. For an increase in BMI of 10 kg/m2 relative risks are approximately 2.3 for adenocarcinoma of the oesophagus, 1.5 for colon c...

A 63-year-old woman was referred to a breast surgeon with a breast mass discovered incidentally during follow-up study after colon cancer surgery. Invasive adenocarcinoma was revealed on core needle biopsy. Wide excision of the breast including the tumor was performed. On standard histological examination the tumor showed features of moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma. The immunohistochem...

In a previous study, the detailed low-molecular weight polyphenolic profile of the different plant parts (leaves, stem, bark and wood) of Uncaria tomentosa was reported, the leaves being the plant part with the highest phenolic content and presenting the most heterogenous proanthocyanidin composition. Further, cytotoxicity of leaves extracts in two cancer cell lines was also found to be higher ...

LRP1 (low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 1), a multifunctional endocytic receptor, has recently been identified as a hub within a biomarker network for multi-cancer clinical outcome prediction. As its role in colon cancer has not yet been characterized, we here investigate the relationship between LRP1 and outcome. Materials and Methods LRP1 mRNA expression was determined in col...

We have produced a monoclonal antibody CCOL1 that is cytotoxic at a titer of 1:20,000 using human sera as a complement source. CCOL1 reacts to the immunizing colon carcinoma line as well as to one other colon carcinoma line. However, it does not react with another colon adenocarcinoma line or with 28 other cultured tumor cells. It is noncytotoxic to lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, RBC, an...

The serological analysis of recombinant cDNA expression libraries (SEREX) by utilizing a library derived from a human pancreatic adenocarcinoma cell line and IgG antibodies from an allogeneic patient serum led to the identification of 18 genes: 13 of these were known genes, and 5 were unknown genes. In Northern and RT-PCR analyses, we found that the expression of mRNA of 14 genes was elevated i...
